May 20 is the deadline to apply for an Allina Health Neighborhood Health Connection Healthy Activity Grant. Allina Health will award grants to community nonprofits and local government organizations in Minnesota and western Wisconsin that submit ideas for bringing people together to do healthy activities. The purpose of a Healthy Activity Grant is to support on-going activities that promote social connections and increase healthy eating and/or physical activity among groups of adults, older adults and families in local communities.
Vibrant Health Family Clinics Employee Appreciation Committee organized “Happy Spring-Send A Carnation” day. Employees were encouraged to purchase carnation flowers to thank co-workers, acknowledge their supervisors, take home to their significant other, or simply make someone’s day. 100% of proceeds of the project were donated to the 2015 Tri4Grace Memorial Triathlon (In Memory of Grace Goblirsch, daughter of Dr. Gregory Goblirsch). The proceeds of that event will be given to a scholarship for a student whose family is affected by cancer.

Theatre students at UW-River Falls will showcase what they have learned over the past semester by presenting a three-night event of student-directed one actsTuesday-Thursday, May 5-7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Syse Theatre in the Kleinpell Fine Arts building. The shows are free to anyone who wants to come and support the student’s work and witness short plays ranging in themes. The event is designed to showcase the talent and hard work of the students in the Stage and Screen Arts course.
The women’s basketball team from UW-River Falls was on hand recently to help the River Falls Area Hospital give away new shoes to children who need them. Sixty children in River Fall received a new pair of athletic shoes and another 240 local elementary students will benefit from Allina Health’s “New Shoes, Healthy Kids” initiative.

A pre-scheduled controlled burn got out of control Wednesday afternoon, April 29. The controlled burn was started about 10:30 a.m., at 311 County Road JJ, a large property near the Kinnickinnic River.
