Wildcat wrestlers keep rolling


The Wildcat wrestling team manhandled both Rice Lake and Eau Claire North in a Big Rivers Conference triple dual Thursday, Jan. 25, at home before going 2-1 at the West Salem/Bangor Team Tournament Saturday, Jan. 27, in West Salem.

The Cats improved to 5-1 in BRC duals by beating Rice Lake, 72-6 and Eau Claire North, 70-9 Thursday and wrapped up the regular season Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Chippewa Falls. They'll begin postseason action at the WIAA Division 1 Regional Tournament Saturday, Feb. 10, in New Richmond.

Saturday at West Salem, the Wildcats defeated host West Salem/Bangor, 45-32, and Neillsville, 54-25, while losing to Holman, 49-24.

Bennett Cernohous, Spencer Cernohous and Michael Rebozo picked up three straight wins midway through the match to provide the margin of victory against West Salem/Bangor. Bennett Cernohous earned a major decision at 106 pounds, Spencer Cernohous got a pin at 113, and Rebozo posted a pin at 120 to put the Wildcats up 45-15.

Earlier in the match Glen Pendleton and Chance Kamrowski each registered pins at 182 and 220 pounds, respectively and Nathan Fuller recorded a technical fall at 152 while the Cats received a forfeit at 170.

Fuller, Pendleton, Kamrowski, Bennett Cernohous, Spencer Cernohous and heavyweight Tyler Kliszcz all recorded falls in the win over Neillsville while Luke Killian won by injury at 160 and the Cats received forfeits at 120 and 126 pounds.

Chayton Penning recorded the Wildcats' lone pin at 113 pounds against Holmen while Kamrowski had a technical fall, Fuller earned a major decision and Bennett Cernohous took a decision.
