Netters ready for postseason

The Wildcat boys' tennis team dropped a pair of matches at a triangular in New Richmond Thursday, May 16, losing to Hudson for the third time this season, 7-0, and to the host Tigers, 6-1, in its final tune-up before WIAA postseason play.

Matthew Chapin and Jack Dehne earned the only Wildcat win of the day with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles against Matt Kukacka and Brandon Dennis of New Richmond. Drew Kilpin went to a tiebreaker against Tyler Dennis at No. 4 singles before losing 4-6, 6-4, 5-10.

The Cats won three consolation titles at the Big Rivers Conference Tournament May 11 in Eau Claire. William Tuchtenhagen earned the consolation title at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Eau Claire North's Thomas Rose, Kilpin beat Chippewa Falls' C.J. Rislove for the title at No. 4 singles, and Paul Lindall and Alex Koehn beat Owen Gehl and Russ Zylstra of Chippewa Falls 4-6, 7-5, 10-3 for the title at No. 2 doubles.

The Cats competed at the WIAA Division 1 subsectional Monday, May 20, in Eau Claire. Players reaching the semifinals in Flight 1 singles and doubles, and players reaching the finals in Flights 2, 3 or 4 in singles and 2 or 3 in doubles, advanced to the sectional meet Wednesday, May 22, in Wisconsin Rapids.
