Netters squeeze in two matches

The Wildcat boys' tennis team got a pair of matches in before winter's return last week, losing to Ashland 7-0 and beating Osceola 6-1 Tuesday, April 9, in Osceola.

The Cats' Big Rivers Conference opener against Chippewa Falls, scheduled for Thursday, April 11, was cancelled due to snow as was the two-day Wausau West Invitational Friday and Saturday, April 12-13. The Chippewa Falls match has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 23, at 4 p.m. in River Falls while the Wausau West Invitational will be played Friday and Saturday, May 17-18.

The Cats swept all four singles matches against the host Chieftains last Tuesday with William Tuchtenhagen posting a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 1 position, Derick Graves winning 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2, Luke Stang rolling 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and Chris Beadles winning by default at No. 4.

All three doubles matches went to tiebreakers with the Cats winning two of three. Matthew Chapin and Jack Dehne pulled out a 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 win at No. 1 and Jacob Boatman and Paul Lindall won 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 at No. 2. Indigo Meads and Hayden Rock bounced back from a 3-6 loss in the first set to win the second 6-3 before losing the tiebreak 11-9.

Graves and Stang lost tiebreakers at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, against Ashland, while Meads and Rock dropped a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles.

The Wildcats are scheduled to play a BRC dual at Eau Claire North this Thursday, April 18, before hosting Chippewa Falls Tuesday, April 23.
