The River Falls softball team scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday night at home against Prescott, but the Cardinals answered with five runs in the top of the seventh inning and that proved to be the difference in a 14-9 victory over the Cats.
River Falls trailed 9-1 before sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Lilly Burke got things started with an RBI single and Jordan Schwantz drove in her second run of the game before scoring on a base hit by Ali Latham. Jordan Torrez followed with the Wildcats’ fifth hit of the inning before Lily Griffin delivered a bases-loaded double to cut the Cardinal lead to 9-8.
Prescott responded by putting up five runs in the top of the seventh on three hits, two walks and a Wildcat error. Burke led off the bottom of the Wildcat seventh with a solo home run to make the final 14-9.
Griffin finished with three hits, including a three-run double, and Schawntz had three hits, including a double, and two RBI while Burke singled, homered, drove in two runs and scored three times. Ali Laube also had two hits while Latham and Torrez had a hit and RBI each.
Avery Amidon allowed nine runs, eight earned, in 6 ⅓-innings in the circle for the Cats with four strikeouts and two walks.
The Wildcats return to action with a make-up game at home against Chippewa Falls Monday, June 7 at 5 p.m.
