After four straight losses to open the season, the River Falls softball team erupted for 12 runs on 13 hits to back up a five-hit shutout by pitcher Ali Laube in a 12-0 victory over Menomonie Thursday, May 6, in Menomonie.
Jordan Torrez smacked a two-run homer during a six-run sixth inning to help the Wildcats break the game open while also singling in a run and doubling to finish with three hits and three RBI.
Avery Armidon also had three hits, including a triple, and two RBI, and Laube helped herself at the plate with three hits, including a double, and three RBI, while Jordan Schwantz contributed two hits, including a two-run double, and Alisha Lathem singled twice and drove in a run and Cheyenne Wilson scored twice.
The Wildcats scored a pair of runs in each of the second, third and fourth innings before plating six runs in the sixth.
Laube struck out two and walked just one to earn her first varsity win in the circle.
The Wildcats return to action Saturday, May 8, at 1:30 p.m. at First National Bank of River Falls Field.
