Lacrosse ends with six straight wins

The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team defeated Northwestern 20-17 last Wednesday, May 1, and Marian 16-4 Sunday, May 5, to finish its inaugural season with a six-game winning streak.

The Falcons finished 11-5 in their first season as a varsity sport, including 4-1 at David Smith Stadium at Ramer Field.

The Falcons stormed back from a 10-7 halftime deficit last Tuesday in St. Paul to beat the University of Northwestern 20-17. Gina Jablonski matched her career-high total for goals with eight, including six in the second half, while Emma Kohlbeck registered five goals and three assists. Sophia Leong added three goals and Cassandra Hubble scored twice while Hanna Helms and Reilly Springman had a goal apiece.

Sunday at home against Marian the Falcons jumped out to a 12-2 halftime lead on their way to a 16-4 victory.

Kohlbeck led the way with five goals and Jablonski and Hubble scored three goals each while Springman scored two and Alexis Ringler, Nicole Swanson and Emma Moonen had a goal apiece.

Softball swept in season finale

The Falcon softball team dropped its final doubleheader of the season, 11-2 and 8-0 to Luther College last Wednesday, May 1, in Decorah, Iowa.

Tayler Fall had an RBI fielder's choice followed by a Lexi Dupee RBI single to make it a 3-2 game in the first inning of the opener but UWRF couldn't put any more runs on the board as Luther scored eight runs total. Kaia Dorn and Allison Kondzela had the only other Falcon hits in the game.

The Falcons had just two hits in the nightcap-- a leadoff double by Dorn in the first inning and a single by Rebecca Daley in the third-- as Luther completed the sweep with an 8-0 victory.

The Falcons finished the season with a record of 8-26 overall.
