Lacrosse gets win in Iowa
Gina Jablonski's sixth goal of the game with five minutes remaining capped an eight goal second half and gave the Falcon women's lacrosse team a 14-13 win over Clarke University Sunday, April 14, in Dubuque, Iowa.
UWRF trailed 10-6 at halftime before outscoring the host Pride 8-3 in the second half and improve to 6-5-0 in its inaugural season.
Jablonski accounted for three of those second half goals and finished with six in the game and assisted on another while Ema Kohlbeck scored three goals, Nicole Swanson and Reilly Springman had two each and Sophia Leong tallied one. Ross Grace finished with 12 saves in the win.
UWRF's home match against Marian University scheduled for Saturday, April 13, was snowed out. The Falcons return to action with a home match this Saturday, April 20, against Illinois Institute of Technology at 10 a.m. at Ramer Field.
Softball swept at Whitewater
The UW-River Falls softball team played as the home team in Whitewater Saturday, April 13, due to unplayable field conditions in River Falls but it didn't help as the Falcons were swept by the Warhawks 5-0 and 12-5.
In the first game, Falcon pitcher Payton Speckel held the Warhawks to just one run through the first five innings but the Falcons couldn't get anything going offensively. UWRF was held to just four hits in the game-- singles by Kaia Dorn, Allison Kondzela, Ali Krohn and Rebecca Daley. Speckel struck out three and walked seven while allowing 10 hits and five earned runs in seven innings.
The Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead in the nightcap but Whitewater answered with six runs in the top of the second on its way to completing the sweep with a 12-5 victory.
Lexi Dupree singled in UWRF's first run, one of three hits and two RBI for the junior, while Krohn and Natalie Bosh had two hits each. Kondzela doubled in a run and Nicole Senour had an RBI sacrifice fly while Hannah Stegeman, the first of five Falcon pitchers, took the loss in the circle.
UWRF, now 6-16 overall, 0-4 in WIAC play, was scheduled to visit UW-Eau Claire Tuesday, April 16, host UW-Stout Thursday, April 18 and host UW-Stevens Point Saturday, April 20.
