Boys Hockey: Wildcats fall at ECN

Twice the Wildcat boys' hockey team pulled to within one goal of Big Rivers Conference leader Eau Claire North but it couldn't get over the hump in a 6-3 loss to the Huskies Thursday night, Jan. 10, at Hobbs Arena in Eau Claire.

Eau Claire North led 2-0 after one period of play before the Wildcats cut the deficit in half with a power play goal by Zak Paulson 3 minutes, 39 seconds into the second period. Paulson was assisted by Jake Bergmanis and Braedon Harer.

North extended its lead to 3-1 at the 11:52 mark of the second and the Cats pulled to within one again when Max Rotsaert found the back of the net with 1:32 remaining in the period, assisted by Harer and Erik Bark, but North scored just 20 seconds later to regain a two goal lead.

North went up 5-2 early in the third and Bergmanis scored an unassisted goal midway through the period but the Huskies added an empty-netter just under two minutes remaining to make the final 6-3.

River Falls' goalie Jake Miller finished with 28 saves as the Huskies outshot the Wildcats 34-19.

River Falls, now 5-10-0 overall, 2-5-0 in the BRC will host Providence Academy of Minnesota in a nonconference game Saturday night, Jan. 12, at 8 p.m. at Wildcat Centre.
