River Falls Wildcats

The River Falls boys’ basketball team trailed from the start and by as many as 16 at one point in a 50-38 loss to fourth-ranked Eau Claire Memorial Tuesday night, Dec. 21, in River Falls.

It was the first loss of the season for the Wildcats, who are now 5-1 overall, 3-1 in the Big Rivers Conference, heading into a nonconference game against La Crosse Logan (2-8) Thursday night. Eau Claire Memorial improved to 7-0, 4-0 in the BRC.

River Falls managed just 19 points in each half against Memorial but were down by just five at the break, 24-19, before the Old Abes pulled away in the second half.

Ethan Campbell was the only Wildcat in double figures in scoring with 11 points and led the team in rebounds with eight while Joey Butz scored nine points and Jacob Landgraf, Jack Hirstein and Preston Johnson finished with six each.

River Falls, who was without starting guard Michael Schurman, shot just 1-of-9 from 3-point range and 1-of-6 from the free throw line.
