Herink sparks Falcons in win over the University of Northwestern

Alex Herink of Hudson scored 20 of his game-high 24 points in the second half to help the eighth-ranked the UW-River Falls men's basketball team rally from a 21-point deficit to win their seventh straight game, 65-60, over the University of Northwestern Saturday, Dec. 16, in St. Paul.

UWRF trailed 41-26 at halftime and 50-29 with 15:40 remaining before outscoring Northwestern 40-16 the rest of the way. Herink scored 16 points in the final 12:37, including a three-pointer to cut Northwestern's lead to five, 52-47, with 9:56 remaining and another with 1:12 left to put the Falcons up by five, 67-62.

Herink also pulled down 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season while Clay Seifert of Prescott finished with 13 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 4:14 remaining, while adding six rebounds, three assists and three steals, and Brennan Witt contributed 12 points, five rebounds and three assists.

The Falcons, now 8-1 overall, are off this week before returning to action against St. Olaf Friday, Dec. 29, at 5 p.m. at UW-Eau Claire. They open WIAC play Wednesday, Jan. 3, at home against UW-Stevens Point.
