The River Falls Fighting Fish desperately needed a win Sunday, June 24, at Elmwood's brand New Sportsman's Park.

After losing their previous three games, including their second straight St. Croix Valley Baseball League loss to New Richmond Wednesday at home, the Fish scratched out a 6-5 victory over the Expos in large part to a gutsy effort from veteran Trevor Gutting.

Gutting went the distance on the mound and was the only Fish player with two hits in a cobbled together lineup that included Joe Halling catching for the first time since his high school junior varsity days.

Jaxin Larson made his first career start at third base and contributed a big two-run single at the plate while Joel Schaffer, Adam Stuessel, Josh Eidem and Halling added an RBI each.

The victory left River Falls with a record of 5-2 in SCVBL play (12-6 overall) with both league losses coming at the hands of New Richmond. The Millers scored seven unanswered runs to beat the Fish for the second time in five days, 7-2, last Wednesday.

River Falls headed north to face the Hayward Hawks Friday, June 22, and limped home after a 10-1 loss. They didn't fare any better Saturday, June 23, when they suffered a 9-1 road loss to the Osseo Merchants.

The Fish will host the Hudson River Rats in a big SCVBL North Division showdown this Friday, June 29, at 7:30 p.m. before heading to Plum City to face the Blues Saturday, June 30, at 1 p.m.
