Call promoted by White Sox
Former Wildcat Alex Call has been promoted to the Chicago White Sox Class AA Birmingham Barons of the Southern League, the team announced Thursday, June 21.
Call, a third-round draft choice by the White Sox out of Ball State University in 2016, was hitting .256 with five home runs and 28 RBI with the Winston-Salem Dash, the White Sox's Class A Advanced affiliate, before his promotion. In three seasons of minor league ball, Call has a career batting average of .260.
Call was the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, a Louisville Slugger First Team All-American and was named to the MAC All-Defensive team as an outfielder at Ball State in 2016.
At River Falls High School, Call was the 2013 Big Rivers Conference Player of the Year and a finalist for the Wisconsin Sports Network Outfielder of the Year his senior season.
Call is one of three former Wildcats currently in the minor leagues along with J.P. Feyereisen and Marty Herum. Feyereisen is with the New York Yankees Class AAA affiliate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders, where he is 3-1 with one save and a team-low 1.57 earned run average in 21 relief appearances, while Herum is currently on the disabled list after hitting .329 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 21 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks Class AA Jackson Generals.
All three were teammates under Ryan Bishop on the River Falls High School section runner-up team in 2010.
