Letter to the Editor RTSA

We are driving to Madison to plead for fair maps at a hearing on Thursday, Oct. 28, at the Capitol. The current majority party wants to continue gerrymandering maps as described in bills SB621/AB624 for legislative maps and SB622/AB625 for congressional maps.

The district maps should be drawn by a non-partisan commission, not by the Legislature. We must live with whatever is created for 10 years until the next census in 2030.

Seventy percent of Wisconsin citizens in the 56 counties that have voted for resolutions or referendums wanted non-partisan district maps, but the Legislature has ignored the voters.

When one political party gerrymanders district maps, it is unfair to all voters. It doesn’t matter whether Republicans or Democrats do it; we know both parties have done it. It is wrong! That is why we are driving to Madison to be heard.

Please help us make the voter’s voices heard.

Call or email your state senator and assemblyperson now.
