The mother of invention

The proverb that “necessity is the mother of invention” certainly was true for River Falls.

While very little good can be said about COVID, River Falls certainly made the best of it. When faced with having to consider cancelling their parade in July, the city leaders decided to try a “reverse parade.” The parade participants were parked in a designated location on the parade route and the spectators walked leisurely down the street from one participant to the next.

As a participant, it was wonderful because we were actually able to talk to people. When the bands played, you didn’t just hear a partial song as the band passed but rather you heard the entire song because the bands performed in a designated area. Neighbors were meeting and greeting one another as they walked.

I give high praise to River Falls for a very enjoyable parade experience. I hope we can do it again!
