Letter to the Editor RTSA

There are constant calls to shop local small businesses. What isn't addressed is the fact that small businesses may be closing not because no one is supporting them, but because it is impossible to get and keep reliable workers.

Ask the businesses up and down main street -- many are only barely staying open. When they do finally hire an employee, the employees often either don't show up when scheduled, or quit after a day because they realize that they are expected to actually work, and it's not their idea of fun.

People are rarely born with a work ethic -- that is something that must be taught. If we expect to be able to shop River Falls, the shops in River Falls need employees who are willing to work.

Most of the business owners are working many hours daily to do their own jobs, and to cover for employees who don't show up.

You are not going to make a fortune working in a small business, but you are appreciated, and you are helping your town stay alive.
