The storm of the century was coming. The National Weather Service forecast a 300-year flood and the governor told people to evacuate. Most people packed up their cars and left.
One man refused to go.
“Don’t worry. God will save me,” he told his neighbors, waving to them as they drove away.
A day later, the rising water had reached the city limits. Police drove through the streets, bullhorn out the window telling anyone left that now was the time.
“Come get in the car with us,” they broadcast.
“No, thank you,” the man called back. “God will save me.”
Days went by, but then the water rose high enough to flood his living room. The fire boat trolled by, spotted him and pulled up to what had been front step railing.
“Hop in. We’ll take you to safety,” firefighters said.
“No, thank you. God will save me,” the man said out the second-floor window.
The water receded, but then amazingly another surge came and the man was forced to sit on his roof.
A helicopter pilot, seeing the man below, hovered over and let down a ladder.
“Climb up!”
The man’s reply? The same: “Thanks, but no thanks. God will save me.”
The man died and went to heaven.
He had one question upon his arrival: “God, why didn’t you save me?”
God replied, “I gave you a warning. I sent you a squad car. I sent you a helicopter. I sent you a boat. What more did you want?”
COVID-19 numbers are steadily rising. Again. We’ve been given warnings. We’ve been given masks, hand sanitizers and now vaccines.
What more do you want?
