Veteran flutist performs at Wellhaven
Wellhaven Senior Living tenants were recently treated to a unique performance. Denny Metzger shared his time and performed using a Native American flute. Metzger, a veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder, is able to reduce his stress by playing the flute.
In addition, he also teaches others how to make the Native American flutes. They can be made from a variety of materials including plastic, wood and clay.
"The Native Americans would play a heart song used for various purposes including healing, meditation, and even courtships," said Metzger during his demonstration. "The music connects with a persons' aura."
Metzger resides in Arizona, but was visiting Wellhaven to see his mother-in-law, Priscilla Schoeneck.
"Music is often used at Wellhaven to inspire well-being and happy memories," said Wellhaven Residential Nurse Erin McLagan.
The group of Wellhaven tenants enjoyed the presentation and performance. They were able to ask questions and see the different types of Native American flutes.
