Wellhaven column: Enjoying the Lenten season

About 45 volunteers put candy and other treats into hundreds of plastic Easter eggs. Submitted photo

Spring has sprung, most of the snow has already left and Easter is nearly upon us. This week tenants met a new volunteer, celebrated Palm Sunday and enjoyed the sunshine when it could be found. Wellhaven Senior Living also hosted the Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt egg filling event. It was a very productive week.

Wellhaven tenants were happy to introduce themselves to our new volunteer, Katie Stremcha. On Saturday afternoon Katie hosted a craft for tenants to participate in. While they worked on their dahlia wreaths they listened to music and shared stories.

Last week we had a few instances of sunshine. Many tenants took advantage of this by taking walks or just sitting by the windows to catch some rays. Tenants have been saying that they can't wait for the nice weather so they can sit out on the patio.

As a religious organization, the Lenten season is very important to us. Pastor Mann has been holding special Lenten services for Wellhaven tenants as well as many of the churches in the community. Tenants were glad to receive their palms on Sunday.

Wellhaven was happy to help the River Falls Lions Club. The Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt and carnival is an annual event aimed at children 1-7 years old. The hunt was held at the River Falls High School this past Saturday. This event is a volunteer opportunity for community members to help put smiles on the faces of our youngsters. About 45 volunteers put candy and other treats into hundreds of plastic Easter eggs. Some of the volunteers included representatives from Students Offering Support, National Honor Society, Royal Neighbors and Wellhaven tenants. River Falls Royal Ambassadors Anna Cernohous and Camryn Shea joined the fun wearing their sparkling tiaras and sashes. There was even a trio of ladies making balloon animals in preparation for the carnival.

More Easter fun is ahead at Wellhaven. Tenants will be invited to color eggs and make crafts with the Montgomery family, there will be a tenant Easter egg hunt and Pastor Mann will be holding Good Friday and Easter Services.
