Bernard McGaver

Bernard (Bernie) McGaver, age 88 passed away peacefully at his home on April 14, 2021 with his son Jeff and daughter Sheila by his side. He was born on August 12th ,1932 in Fairchild, Wisconsin to Joseph and Myrtle McGaver.

Beloved father to Jeff (Steve Berg) McGaver, Sheila (Kevin) Fox, Steve (Marsha) Rouch and grandfather to Harrison (Mandy) Rouch and Donovan (Kim) Conrad. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years Marlys McGaver and daughter Nancy Rouch.

Bernie had a happy and successful 39 year career with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and served as superintendent at Willow River State Park in Hudson, Devil’s Lake State Park in Baraboo and Interstate Park in St. Croix Falls. He was naturally outgoing and loved being surrounded by nature and meeting new people who visited the parks. He was happiest fishing, camping, playing cribbage or cheering on the Packers, Brewers and Badgers. He and Marlys loved to camp, travel and entertain - their house was always bustling with activity. Bernie was a simple, humble man with a joy for life and deep love for God and his family. He always had a joke to tell and loved to laugh.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Kurt Demel and his staff for the excellent compassionate care they always provided and the many neighbors and friends who brought meals and provided acts of kindness that allowed dad to achieve his wish to remain in his home.

A private service for Bernie and Marlys will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Roberts Congregational United Church of Christ.
