Carol Kolasinski

Carol Kolasinski

Carol Jean Kolasinski died peacefully on April 24, 2019 in Chico, California, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was 72. Carol was born on June 22, 1946 to Jeanette and Gilbert Paulsen. She was the youngest of six children. The family lived just outside of Frederic, Wisconsin on their farm, and Carol graduated from Frederic High School in 1964. She attended the University of Wisconsin at River Falls and worked part time at the River Falls Hospital. In the summer of 1967 she attended a dance at the Vets' Club where she met Jerry Kolasinski. Carol and Jerry married later that year. While attending college and before having children, Carol worked at the River Falls First National Bank while Jerry worked at his father's insurance agency. Without question, Carol's greatest joy was her family. Her three children, Jon, Julie, and Jill were all born and raised in River Falls and when all three were in elementary school Carol went back to college to finish her degree. Always keen with numbers, Carol graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting from UWRF in 1982. Upon graduation, she worked at Sternat and Associate's until 1998, when she and Jerry moved to Sacramento, California to be closer to their first grandson, Joseph. Carol continued to work in accounting and eventually as a senior internal auditor at a casino near Chico, California, where she eventually settled. But by far, her greatest life work was her children and grandchildren, and she never missed an opportunity to be with them even though they were scattered around the globe living in Poland, Texas, and California. In recent years, her favorite time with her children and grandchildren was at a family cabin near Frederic visiting her siblings and old friends, as well as playing cards and dominoes for hours on end with her grandchildren. Walking, camping, and spending time outside were favorite activities of Carol's. She loved to quilt and had an insatiable appetite for playing games, including Sudoku, and reading. She loved history, especially World War II and the era of John F. Kennedy's presidency. She was feisty and strong and loved debating on any topic that tickled her intellectual funny bone. One of Carol's greatest gifts was connecting with people from all walks of life. Quietly gregarious and deeply empathetic, she was never shy to point out the injustices in the world and stand by her beliefs. Carol was preceded in death by her parents and husband Gerald, and brothers, Gary Paulsen and Duane Paulsen. She is survived by her three loving children, Jon (Basia) of Warsaw, Poland, Julie (Pat) Slupski of Chico, California, and Jill Kolasinski (Rip Esselstyn) of Austin, Texas; Grandchildren, Arek and Olaf Kolasinski, Joseph and Paul Slupski, and Kole, Sophie, and Hope Esselstyn; Brother David (Gale) Paulsen; Sisters Janice (Ron) Johnstone, and Betty (Guy) Byram; along with many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held for Carol on Tuesday, July 9 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Frederic, Wisconsin at 11am followed by refreshments.
