River Falls girls' soccer team is heading to the WIAA State Tournament after defeating Pulaski, 2-0, in the Division 2 sectional championship game Saturday, June 9, in Marshfield.

Freshman Lindsay Young and senior Gina Filkins accounted for the Wildcat scoring and senior Kiera LaCroix stopped all five shots she faced to clinch the Cat's first state tourney berth since 2011.

Young scored just 1 minute, 10 seconds into the match after Filkins bumped a a short cross from just outside the penalty box that resulted in a battle for the ball between Wildcat senior Leanna Becker and Pulaski goalkeeper Malorie Schultz. The ball squirted over to young who kicked it into the open net for a 1-0 lead.

Filkins scored on the Wildcat's first shot of the second half when she one-timed a pass from freshman Jaden Woiwode that hit the crossbar and bounced down and across the goal line.

River Falls (16-2-2) will face Brookfield Central (16-1-1) in a WIAA State Tournament semifinal match Thursday, June 14, at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee. New Berlin Eisenhower (18-2-1) and Oregon (11-3-6) will meet in the other semifinal at 1:30 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, June 16, at 11 a.m.

A send-off for the Wildcats is planned for Wednesday, June 13, at 10 a.m. at the high school.
