RIVER FALLS – The River Falls School Board approved a five year strategic plan outlining goals for the district at their June 20 meeting. The plan sets goals for the district through 2027.
Superintendent Jamie Benson presented the plan to school board members. The plan was created with current values from the district.
The first goal is holding high expectations for students' learning. This goal includes setting students up for success during their time in the district through continued collaboration with teachers.
The second goal creates a healthy and safe environment at the schools. One aspect of the goal is conducting culture and climate surveys from students.
The third goal focuses on attracting and retaining staff members. Benson said this would be done by offering competitive wages within the region.
The fourth goal aims to provide life skills to students while they are enrolled. Life skills would include increasing critical thinking, problem solving and financial literacy.
The fifth and final goal is upholding operational excellence. This goal focuses on projecting long-term problems such as increased enrollment. Classroom space is another focus of the goal.
Benson said the district had a strategic plan from 2015-2020. He said the district had a “void” in developing one for the next five years.
The process for creating the plan began in March when the district held three community listening sessions. Staff, students and community members provided feedback which were used to draft the new plan.
Speaking about the implementation, Benson said the district is going to start immediately.
“We’re going to begin to prioritize these five year goal areas and those objectives for the next calendar year,” Benson said. “We want to be excellent which is why this is a five year plan, not a one or two year plan.”
Benson said he is aware the plan will take time. He added the plan will be monitored to ensure goals are being met.
