An exact tie in polling numbers was cause for one of two St. Croix County Board election recounts be held this week.

Ballots for the District 13 race between incumbent Scottie Ard and challenger Ryan Sherley will be recounted at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the St. Croix County Government Center. Both candidates received 213 votes during the April 3 election, according to preliminary results.

Sherley petitioned for the recount, alleging a mistake in vote counting for New Richmond wards 4-6 and 10-12. The recount takes place in Room 1281.

The second recount, to be held Friday, April 13, will be for the District 3 race between incumbent Christopher Babbitt and challenger Lynda Miller in which Miller won by seven votes (305-298). Babbitt petitioned for the recount, alleging a mistake was made in Wards 3-7 in the town of Hudson and Wards 4-6 in the town of St. Joseph.

The District 3 recount will be held at 9 a.m. Friday in the Government Center’s board room.

Candidates and others can observe and challenge the votes and the Board of Canvassers’ decisions.
