River Falls Community Foundation awards $5,000 in local grants
The River Falls Community Foundation (RFCF) has awarded $5,000 among four local programs to support people, families and urgent needs within the River Falls area. The grantees are The Assistance & Resource Center (ARC), Our Neighbors' Place, The River Falls Sunshine Fund and St. Croix Valley Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).
The Assistance & Resource Center (ARC) supports families and individuals in the River Falls and Ellsworth communities with short term financial issues to meet basic needs such as housing, utilities and transportation. ARC received a $2,000 grant for general operations and transportation support to help clients with vehicle registration and maintenance costs ensuring a reliable vehicle for employment and other critical transportation needs.
Our Neighbor's Place offers support and services to families and individuals impacted by homelessness and poverty. A $1,000 grant will support the Backpack Program, which provides 7-9 pounds of non-perishable food as well as a voucher for perishable food items, and is sent home weekly with any River Falls School District student whose family is enrolled in the program.
The River Falls Sunshine Fund is a student-originated/student-led organization with a goal of generating funds to provide for or "lift-up" students and families facing hardship within the community. A $500 grant will help support students and families of the River Falls School District affected by loss or hardship.
St. Croix Valley Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) provides free forensic health examinations and advocacy services to victims of sexual assault and interpersonal violence (as well as community outreach). SART received a $1,500 grant for clinical skills lab training for three nurses, increasing their skills and improving their ability to performing medical forensic examination of the adult and adolescent sexual assault patient.
Earlier this year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Wisconsin — St. Croix Valley Region received the first Big Idea Grant from River Falls Community Foundation to establish a revenue stream for the organization through Sporting World, a used sporting goods store now open at 707A N. Main St.
In addition to providing grant funds, the River Falls Community Foundation thanks each of these
organizations for their important work in the community.
