Red Wing, Bay city residents injured in 2-car crash
One person was airlifted and three others were transported by ambulance Sunday after a two-car crash near Bay City.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Office said 69-year-old Bay City resident John M. Farrell Jr. was taken by LifeLink III air ambulance to Regions Hospital. A Regions spokeswoman said he was listed in fair condition Tuesday.
Deputies said Farrell was driving a 2000 Buick Century that collided with a 2011 Buick Lacrosse at about 9:53 a.m. Sept. 30 on 650th Street north of County Road EE in the town of Hartland. Investigation revealed Farrell's car was northbound on 650th Street when it briefly left the road on a curve, lost control and slid into the southbound lane, where it struck the Lacrosse.
That vehicle, driven by 73-year-old Richard W. Scharpen, had two passengers: Red Wing resident Elaine M. Scharpen, 73, and Bay City resident Patricia L. Snider, 65.
The Scharpens and Snider were taken by ambulance to Mayo Health Systems-Red Wing. The extent of their injuries was not disclosed.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Ellsworth fire and ambulance, and Red Wing firefighters.
