While recently home on leave, brother and sister Air Force Cadets Kenny Oberlin and Elisabeth Oberlin shared their Academy experiences with River Falls American Legion members.

Kenny, a 2015 RFHS graduate, is in his third year at the Air Force Academy, located in Ft. Collins, Co. His sister Elisabeth, RFHS class of 2018, is in her first year there and in the midst of "boot" training.

Both said they look at their military commitment as long term, with a common goal of becoming Air Force pilots. Legion members learned that the flight specialty requires a 10-year commitment following four years of Academy and three year's post-Academy training, for a total of 17 years. Less rigorous specialties require a total commitment of nine years, including time at the Academy. In total, there are options of 27 majors and four minors.

The two, whose parents are Ty and Jomarie Oberlin, were also welcomed as members of the American Legion. Post 121 has a policy of paying annual dues for those serving on active duty, which includes Academy training.
