Sharing Families readies for 30th season, final year in RFJ building

A grassroots holiday-sharing organization is gearing up for its 30th year of service and its final run from the River Falls Journal newspaper building.

Directors for the River Falls Sharing Families program recently learned the seasonal charity project would be allowed to use the RFJ warehouse for staging one last time as building owner Forum Communications Co. recently entered an agreement to sell the facility to the City of River Falls for a new police headquarters.

Board president Judy Wiff said the program will proceed as it has in the past. Past sponsors will be invited by email, and individuals, families or organizations wishing to sponsor a family can get in touch via email to, call 715-426-1050 and leave a voice message, or visit the River Falls Sharing Families Facebook page.

During their Oct. 24 planning meeting, Sharing Families board members agreed the program will again aim to help 50 local families by providing them Christmas gifts and groceries. This is the same goal the organization has had for many years.

Recipient profiles are gathered by volunteers with The Angels on Earth Giving Tree Program which partners with Assistance and Resource Center, Inc. (ARC) to provide for families in the River Falls School District during the Christmas season.

Family profiles will likely be available after Nov. 15. Sponsors will have until noon, Friday, Dec. 14 to assemble gift packages and deliver them to the Journal office, 2815 Prairie Drive. Volunteers will then check over the contributions and shop for any remaining clothing or household items needed to complete the assignments. Gifts will be distributed Dec. 19-21.

Cash donations can be mailed to Sharing Families, P.O. Box 701, River Falls, WI 54022, or brought to the Journal office between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

Sharing Families is incorporated as a non-profit corporation and is run by a volunteer board of directors. Contributions are tax deductible. Receipts are available.

Members of the board of directors are Bonnie Carroll, Dalene Crandall, Pam Herink, Maureen Paulson, Rosalie Walker, Judy Wiff and Steve Dzubay.
