School District invites community to Town Hall meeting Thursday

The School District of River Falls is hosting a Town Hall Meeting to discuss school safety matters with the community.  The gathering will take place on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.  All parents and community members are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
The Town Hall-style meeting will include a brief presentation of existing district safety measures to be followed by a panel of school officials and local police department representatives responding to audience questions and/or suggestions. The intent of this gathering is for the district to share current safety measures and to hear comments, suggestions, and ideas for school safety from our community."School safety is our top priority," said District Superintendent Jamie Benson, "and we want to have a transparent and honest community conversation about our continuing efforts to maintain safe schools".
Some safety features added this year include:
  • A shatter-resistant film on glass in main entrance areas
  • Buzz-in systems for all visitors entering all schools
  • A second school resource officer
  • A new threat reporting program
  • Age-appropriate safety drills for students and staff
  • Continued training for staff in "trauma informed care," related to trauma students may have eperienced, it's effects, and how trauma-sensitive practices can be implemented
  • Additional surveilance cameras by school doors
