Pierce County Fair Coordinator Ann Webb says this year’s fair in early August will include a “feed the hungry” theme. “The Pierce County Fair in Ellsworth is stepping up to the challenge, and we want to see if we can bring in more food donations that any other fair in Wisconsin,” Webb said.

Hudson author Natalie Buske Thomas, known for her popular Serena Wilcox Mysteries for adult readers, and daughter Cassandra, also an author, will be co-hosting a writing workshop at 6.30 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the Hudson Public Library, 700 First Street, Room 219. The two will be speaking on the topic of “How to Promote Yourself, How to Invest, and How to Make Time.” Cassandra Thomas is an independent cartoonist and a biotechnology student at the UW-River Falls.

The 20 corner gardens that we can’t help but notice and admire up and down Second Street are tended to by an informal group called the Second Street Gardeners. While year after year there’s turnover in the group, these are not city employees but volunteers.
Seventy local area youth will take the stage along with two professional actors in Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre’s original musical production of “Robin Hood” at 7 p.m. Friday, July 27, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at Abbott Hall in the Kleinpell Fine Arts Building on the university campus.
