River Falls Municipal Utilities will hold a "Customer Appreciation" gathering from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, at City Hall, 222 Lewis St. People are invited to enjoy a free buffet style lunch and to learn about keeping a "healthy home." There will also be a drawing to have a house outfitted with LED lighting. The Aug. 8 event will have hot dogs, corn on the cob, watermelon and ice cream. There will be energy education booths, kids activities, henna and photo booth and live music. Those who attend without driving get a prize.

If you missed the latest production of Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre, sponsored by the River Falls Community Theatre, you missed something special. Two directors from RFCT took 70 local children, spent four hours a day last week, and by Friday night put on an original musical production of “Robin Hood.” I had the pleasure of being in the theater during the rehearsals and watched the magic happen — 70 kids aging from 7 to 16 — singing, dancing, and learning lines, all within five days. At 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, the documentary movie “Honor Flight” will be shown at the Hudson 12 Theater. The movie is based on the Milwaukee Honor Flight hub and follows four Wisconsin WWII veterans’ trip to Washington D.C. to see their WWII memorial. After seeing this film a few months ago I wanted get it scheduled in our area. I have worked with Tugg and the Hudson 12 Theater to host this documentary. What a difference a year makes.
On June 24, WWII veteran, Hubert Neumann was given the Liberty Medal by General Gerald Matteson from the American Legion Post 121 of River Falls, at the Lutheran Home, where Neumann resides. The medal was presented in recognition of Neumann’s participation in the liberation of Paris on Aug. 25, 1944. Matteson also presented Neumann with a General’s Star for his services in Normandy, Battle of the Bulge and the deliverance of Paris from the Germans. Shown with Neumann are four of his five children.
