PRESCOTT — Patrons of Borner Farm Farmer’s Market, 1266 Walnut St., will now be able to access fresh fruits and vegetables at the Saturday market, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., with their Quest Cards through the end of October. An EBT machine will be on site to accommodate them.
For the fourth straight month, St. Croix County had the lowest jobless rate among the state’s 72 counties at 4%. Coming in at No. 2, according to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, was Pierce County at 4.2% The Madison area of Dane County was third at 4.5%. The DWD said rates decreased or remained the same in 71 of 72 Wisconsin counties between July and August.
A couple from Rhinelander visiting their daughter, a freshman at UW-River Falls, last week Tuesday, Sept. 17, brought along the family dogs – a fox terrier and a rat terrier. The latter never made it back to Rhinelander. The family was staying at Valu Stay Inn & Suites on North Main Street. The 48-year-old woman was walking both dogs on a dual leash before turning in for the night. Another motel resident was also outside, smoking a cigarette, with her pit bull.
Wisconsin State Patrol officials are warning about a phone scam in which a caller identifies himself as a sergeant from the State Patrol Green Bay office and asks for money to resolve a car crash involving a relative of the person called. The State Patrol has received information that people on at least two occasions were called by a man who identified himself as “Sergeant Walker of the State Patrol office in Green Bay.” The fake sergeant asked
The St. Joseph Fall Festival at 269 Dakota Street South in Prescott will be held this Sunday, Sept. 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a barbecued chicken dinner, country store, live and silent auction, raffles, bingo, children’s games, Packer football raffle, quilts, live music, Connie’s Kitchen and much more. The public is invited to a Movie Night on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Our Savior’s Church ballpark, CTH N in Beldenville. At dusk people bring blankets and lawn chairs for the outdoor movie night. Reasonable admission and concessions, all proceeds go to ball field improvements. Cancelled if rain.
A 5K Run/Walk is planned by the family and friends of Daniel Gerbec on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Glen Park. Daniel was 23 and a senior at UW-Eau Claire when he died on Sept. 28, 2012. Called the "Danbana Dash" after the bandanas that Dan always wore, the family walk will have a "super hero" theme and many activities planned. Besides the walk/run, there will be food, games, raffle, live music, and a memorial wall.

HUDSON HOSPITAL Caleb David Jensen was born on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, weighing eight pounds, four ounces and 20 inches long, to Kelly and Jesse Jensen of Spring Valley.
Don and Florence Antiel celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family and friends at Hoffman Park on Aug. 7. The couple raised ten children in River Falls — Michael, Ron, Margie, Rita, Alan and Annette, Dale, Connie, Jean and Jon. Readers will remember Don managing the Erickson bakery with Florence at his side for many years. They have 24 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren and still live in River Falls.
