On Friday, November 14, HOPE Lutheran’s third annual Jazz & More took place in the fellowship hall of St. Bridget Catholic Church. The space was transformed into a fall festival complete with lively jazz music, food and refreshments, and a silent auction. The proceeds from the evening will be used to help pay for HOPE’s land near Sterling Ponds where building plans are taking shape for this spring. Nearly 200 people attended the event.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is in the news again after a successful test of its Orion explorer spaceship. It’s perfect timing for a NASA exhibit this month at the River Falls Public Library. The exhibit includes displays on the International Space Station, the Hubble telescope, life in space, the re-usable Space Shuttle system, the Apollo moon mission and much more. A UW-River Falls graduate and activist has planned a protest set for Monday, Dec. 8, at 4:30 p.m. in River Falls. Organizer Nicholas Shillingford said a group of people will stand near Main and Division streets and hold signs to protest the grand jury decision not to indict a police officer in the choking death of New Yorker Eric Garner, as well as protesting the Mike Brown case and others like it. Nationally-known recording artist Michael Russell O’Brien will be performing a Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, 211 E. Division St. This is a wonderful family-centered event sponsored by the River Falls chapter of the Knights of Columbus. Cost of tickets is $7 for adults, $5 for students, and kids 5 and under are free. Tickets are available at the church office, or by calling 715-425-1870. All proceeds will benefit local charities.
River Falls Cadette Troops 53022, 53727 and 55180 took a field trip to the Apple Store in the Uptown area of Minneapolis recently to complete their Digital Movie Maker Badge.
The entries are in for the public library's annual gingerbread house competition. Judging was set for Thursday, Dec. 4. People's Choice voting is open from Dec. 5 to Dec. 10.
