The Tri Angels Playground committee of River Falls says that Royal Credit Union Foundation is joining the project as a “PILLAR” sponsor. RCU’s $50,000 gift will go toward specialized playground equipment and installation for the city's first, and only, universally accessible playground at Hoffman Park this summer. “PILLAR” sponsors have given $50,000 or more towards the playground.

Grand Royal Ambassador, Abby King, represented River Falls at the annual St. Paul Winter Carnival Visiting Ambassador weekend. She and about 60 other royalty from around Minnesota and Wisconsin were in attendance. They took part in many of the festivities put on throughout the St Paul Winter Carnival. Each year the Grand Royal Ambassador is able to participate thanks to the generous donation from the River Falls Lions to pay her enrollment fee.
Every spring, the Bowls for Hope event raises money to help a worthy organization make a difference in the St. Croix Valley. This year’s event is from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at UW-River Falls. For a fee of $25 for adults and $5 for children ages 12 and under, people may select and keep a bowl created in ceramic/pottery classes at UWRF, River Falls High School, Meyer Middle School, the Renaissance Academy, or by area artists. Folks can also sample soups donated and served by area restaurants.
River Falls High School senior Izzy Lucking signed a letter of intent recently to play soccer at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa beginning in the fall of 2015. Lucking is a two-time All-Big Rivers Conference selection under head coach Charles Conley with her senior season still ahead of her. She was named the Wildcats Rookie of the Year as a freshman and team MVP and Best Defensive Player last spring as a junior. The Cats have finished as sectional runner-up twice in her three-year varsity career.
Members of HOPE Lutheran Church celebrated the burning of the mortgage for their land loan near Sterling Ponds on Jan. 18. Plans are proceeding for a new building on the property that will allow HOPE to continue their mission of caring for others in the community of River Falls and beyond.

Several well-designed studies published in prominent journals, such as The New England Journal of Medicine, show that long-term weight reduction does not differ between different types of diets. The take-home message: For weight control, the ‘diet’ that works is the diet you can follow for the rest of your life. But a healthy diet is not simply about weight loss.
