Dr. Milan William Wehking, 71, of River Falls, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at the River Falls Area Hospital. Milan Wehking was born to Helen and Albert Wehking on a family farm 10 miles northwest of Buffalo Lake, Minn., on July 31, 1937. As the youngest of four children, Milan first attended grade school in Hector, Minn., before his family sold the farm and moved to Buffalo Lake for his fourth grade year. Milan was an avid athlete and quality student during his school years.
Joan M. Kleinschmidt, 62, of Almena died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Cumberland Memorial Hospital. She was born on Nov. 28, 1946, in River Falls, to Francis and Ruth (Jackman) Luloff. Joan graduated from River Falls High School in 1965. She was a hard worker, as was demonstrated by 20 years at Hartzell Manufacturing. Joan loved to garden when she was able and enjoyed hunting with Vern. She was a wonderful mother and loved spending time with the grandchildren. Joan was an excellent cook, devoted homemaker and cat lover.
Services for Dr. Galen Walter Berry, 58, of Sedona, Ariz., were held Thursday, July 3, 2008, through Greer's Mortuary in Sedona. Graveside services followed. Berry died of a heart attack on Sunday, June 29, 2008, while on his regular Sunday morning bike ride with friends. He was born on June 19, 1950, in Hoisington, Kan., to the late Lester Maxwell and Neva Ethel Grace Bridenstine Berry. Raised on a wheat farm, he plowed fields, bucked bales and pumped gas with his brothers to help his parents put him through college.
August T. Marcotte, 57, of Baldwin, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at his home. August was born on Dec. 9, 1950, to August Sr. and Violet (Biedler) Marcotte in Milwaukee. He grew up in Woodville where he graduated from Baldwin-Woodville High School. After graduating, August served his country proudly in Vietnam with the U.S. Army.
Renowned jazz drummer, Spanish Professor Emeritus at UW-RF Don Lee "Doggie" Berg, a longtime resident of River Falls, was born April 21, 1930, in Wausau. He died suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. He was 78. He leaves behind him a stellar career as a college Spanish professor who specialized in linguistics and Latin American studies. He was the catalyst for the Semester Abroad Program to Mexico for UW-River Falls students in the early '80s.
Steven was born to Marvin and Wanda Cernohous on Aug. 16, 1947, in River Falls. He passed away in peace on June 22, 2008, at his home surrounded by his immediate family. He served honorably in Vietnam before moving his family to Fresno, Calif., in 1974. He was a distinguished graphic designer and amateur artist of clay and paint. He owned his own graphic arts business in Fresno for 25 years before moving to Sacramento. His sense of humor and smile were contagious and as such, was loved by all that met him.
Donald Lee "Doggie" Berg, 78, long-time resident of River Falls, Spanish professor emeritus at UW-River Falls, and "best snare drummer of his generation," died suddenly on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. A founding member of the Hall Brothers Jazz Band and part-owner of the Emporium of Jazz in Mendota, Minn., he was also the catalyst for the Semester Abroad Program to Mexico at UW-River Falls. He is survived by his wife, Mimi Trudeau; sons: Clint (Freya Larson) of Nashville, and Jason (Wa Stella) of Minnetonka, Minn.; two step-sons: Brent Griffin of Burnsville, Minn., and Phillip (Jeanne) Griffin
Samuel Larson Freiermuth, 19, of River Falls, passed away quickly on Friday, May 2, 2008. He was born on June 4, 1988, in Minneapolis. He graduated from River Falls High School in 2006, and went on to college at Minneapolis College of Art and Design to pursue his passion of photography. His life was filled with the love of family, friends, pets, music, food and football. He had a gift in finding beauty in the most ordinary things.
Ronald Dean Raehsler, 71, of River Falls, passed away after a long struggle with cancer on Monday morning, April 14, 2008, at the River Falls Area Hospital. Ronald was born on Oct. 2, 1936, the son of Joseph William and Lillian Lydia (Fischer) Raehsler in St. Paul. He graduated from high school in Ellsworth, and the UW-River Falls with a degree in chemistry. Ronald married Ramona Rosalind Robelia on March 17, 1958. Ronald served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954-1957 and was stationed for a time in Korea.
Anita M. Borchardt, 93, of River Falls, formerly of Watertown, died Friday, April 4, 2008, in River Falls, after a brief illness. Anita Minnie Zoellick was born on Sept. 4, 1914, in Watertown, the daughter of William and Olga (Guetzlaff) Zoellick. She married Arthur Borchardt Dec. 10, 1938, in Watertown. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in River Falls and a former member of St.
