Lee Milligan, age 55, of Baldwin, St. Croix County Agricultural Agent, peacefully went to his Lord Sunday, Jan. 10, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. A Celebration of Life for Lee Milligan will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Faith Community Church, 777 Carmichael Rd., Hudson. Burial will be in the Long Lake Lutheran Cemetery near Rice Lake. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin and one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Memorials are preferred.
Gordon Ralph Condit, 91, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, after a well-lived life. He was born in Spring Valley, Wis., on Feb. 22, 1918, the only child of Litta Fern Springer Condit and Ralph George Condit. He was married to Maxine Retrum on August 3, 1946, in River Falls, Wis. They lived in Crossett, Ark., and DeRidder, La., before moving to Lake Charles, La., in 2000. Gordon went to school in Spring Valley until moving to River Falls, where he graduated from high school in 1936. He was active in sports such as football and loved canoeing on the rivers in Wisconsin.
Harris M. Samb, 89, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at American Heritage Care Center in Hammond. Harris was born Feb. 7, 1920, in the town of Gilman to Martin and Nora (Gregerson) Samb. He was a graduate of Spring Valley High School, class of 1938. In 1939, he bought a trucking business. This trucking business was put on hold when he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Jan. 9, 1942. He served his country during World War II for three and a half years. Three years of that time, he was overseas in Africa and Italy (China Burma India Theatre) with Gen.
Lenore (nee Lee) Dunbar-Johnson, age 85, River Falls, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at the Regina Medical Center, Hastings. Lenore was born on Oct. 2, 1924, the daughter of Leonard and Clara (Herum) Lee. She married John Dunbar and later Lowell "Lars" Johnson. Lenore enjoyed reading, playing cards, traveling and quilting. Lenore is survived by her daughter, Karen (Keith) Haas, River Falls, Wis.; four grandchildren, Ronald (Tootie) Haas, Douglas (Brenda) Haas, Louise (Michael) Hutter, Laura (Kevin) Bauer; six great-grandsons and two great-great-grandsons.
Terrence Glenn "Terry" Phillipps, age 44, of Spring Valley, Wis., and formerly of Prescott, Wis., died on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. Terry was born August 12, 1965, in Hudson, Wis., to Glenn Franklin and Audrey Lorraine (Corcoran) Phillipps. Terry attended school in Prescott, and then River Falls High School, where he graduated from the class of 1986. Terry was a Green Bay Packers fan who also enjoyed board games, card games, playing 6-5-4, drawing cars and trucks, playing Bingo, and writing short stories. Terry just loved being involved!!
Dugan Larson, age 87, died peacefully Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, surrounded by family, at the Lutheran Home in River Falls, Wis. He had suffered from Alzheimer's disease for the past four years. Dugan was born on June 5, 1922, in Superior, Wis., to George C. "Dugan" and Hilda (Carlquist) Larson Sr. He moved to North Hudson at the age of three and eventually to River Falls where he graduated from high school in May 1940 and attended two years of college at the University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942, during World War II.
Eugene "Gene" Cudd, age 79, of Hudson, Wis., and formerly of River Falls, Wis., passed away peacefully at his residence on Jan. 1, 2010. He began the new year in Heaven with the love of his life, Clarice. Gene was born Oct. 17, 1930, in Beldenville, Wis., to parents John Huntley Cudd and Hannah Louise (Johnson) Cudd. Gene attended school in River Falls. Gene honorably served his country in the Army during the Korean War. Gene would be united in marriage to Clarice Ann Hanvelt on April 28, 1951, at a ceremony at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in River Falls.
Merle "Mike" Michaelson, 88 Died Dec. 30, 2009 Merle "Mike" Michaelson was an educator and a churchman. He came to UW-River Falls in 1967 to chair the biology department, after having taught at Colorado State University, the University of Missouri at Columbia, and St. Cloud State University, and having done research on corn and flax for the USDA in Brookings, S.D. After retirement in 1983, he taught at Balob Teachers College in Papua New Guinea, and then returned to UWRF as Associate Dean of Arts and Science for five quarters.
Mandie Duckert, age 93, of Coon Rapids, Minn., and formerly of River Falls and Hammond, died on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at the Hammond Congregational United Church of Christ. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the church on Saturday, and also from 4-7 p.m. Friday evening at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton St., Baldwin. Arrangements are entrusted to the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin.
Richard "Dick" Murphy, age 66, died peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side at his home in Diamond Bluff on Dec. 30, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 8, 1943 in Red Wing, Minn., to C.W. (Dick) and Florence (Huppert) Murphy. He attended parochial school at St. Mary's Big River until 8th grade. Dick then attended Prescott High School, graduating in 1961. He married Sheila Frazier Sept. 22, 1962, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Wing.
