Paul James Symon, 56, of River Falls, died on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Paul. Paul was born on April 9, 1953, to Charles and Helen (Jindra) Symon in Teaneck, N. J. He grew up in New Jersey where he graduated from Emerson High School. Upon graduation, Paul moved to Menomonie, where he attended college at UW-Stout. He got a job at 3M where he worked as a machine shop inspector for 28 years. In the early '90s, Paul began seeing a woman named Susan Modlin. On Oct.19, 1991, the two were joined in marriage at the Wakanda Park in Menomonie.
Norbert J. Rohl, 32, of Ellsworth, died suddenly at his home on Thursday, May 21, 2009. Bert was born on May 21, 1977, in Red Wing, Minn., the son of Carol (Cashman) and Donald Rohl. He was a graduate of Ellsworth High School and married Stacey Gulbranson on May 5, 2007, at English Lutheran Church. He belonged to the Laborers Local 132 and currently was working for Koch Refinery. Bert's passion for life was always his family and friends first.
Paul James Symon, 56, of River Falls, died on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Paul. A memorial gathering for Paul will be held on Friday, May 29, from 3 to 5 pm at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Burial will be held privately at a later date. Memorials are Preferred. Services are in the care of the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson.
Jack A. Zwolenski, age 70, of Ellsworth, died Monday, May 11, 2009 at his home. Jack was born on Aug. 26, 1938, in Minneapolis, the son of John A. and Grace (Fassett) Zwolenski. He was a graduate of Ellsworth High School. On Oct. 11, 1958 Jack married Peggy Dusek at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in River Falls. Jack was a long time employee at 3M. He was an avid sports enthusiast and particularly enjoyed watching the Packers, playing golf and later in life enjoyed watching baseball. Jack wrote a weekly sports column in the Shopper for many years.
Marlys "Marlie" Bethel Laue, 73, of Greeley, Colo., died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at the North Colorado Medical Center Hospice Inpatient Unit. She was born on March 15, 1936 to Richard H. and Evalyn (Ruble) Meents in River Falls. She was educated in the Campus School of Wisconsin State College and graduated from River Falls High School in 1953. She continued her education at Wisconsin State College (now the UW-River Falls), graduating in 1957 with a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education in the fields of Biology, Geology and Library Science.
Retta Irene McIntyre Albert was born on May 30, 1912, to John and Eva McIntyre on a farm near Wayne, Neb. Retta died Friday, May 15, 2009, at the River Falls Kinnic Home, where she had been a resident for the last 15 months. She attended first through eighth grade at the Wayne State College Campus School in Wayne, Neb. She attended Wayne High School for three years and then graduated from the high school in Stanton, Neb., in 1930.
Rose K. Brown, 99, of River Falls, Hudson and St. Paul, died surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 5, 2009. The daughter of William Fredrick and Rose Katherine (Handel) Beck, Rose was born on Nov. 4, 1909, in Eau Claire County. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to West St. Paul, Minn., where she attended grade school and graduated from Emerson High School. She fell in love and married Robert E. Brown from St. Paul and they had a successful marriage until he died in 1963. The couple raised their children, Robert and Joyce, in St. Paul and St.
Lindsey Ruth Paurus, 28, of River Falls, died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at the Kinnic Long Term Care, as a result of complications associated with M.S. Lindsey was diagnosed with M.S. at an early age. She lived her life to the fullest and never complained of her disease. She was born on May 3, 1981, in Hibbing, Minn., the daughter of Steven and Janine (Lepinski) Paurus. Lindsey was a graduate of River Falls High School. Lindsey is survived by her parents, Steven and Janine of River Falls; sisters: Jamie Paurus of River Falls, Heidi (Brian) Lyrek of St.
James Joseph Nobley, 32, of River Falls, died after a motorcycle accident on Monday, May 4, 2009, in River Falls. He was born on May 11, 1976, in Augsburg, Germany, to Gladys Nobley. James worked at Andersen Windows for 11 years. James loved to work out and stay in shape. He enjoyed spending time with those he loved. He also lived life to the fullest, enjoying frequent cook outs and motorcycle rides.
Maureen Frances McEwen, 92, died on Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the River Falls Area Hospital. She was born on Dec. 7, 1916, in St. Paul, the eldest daughter of Frank (Pegs) and Marion (DeCourcy) Albright. She grew up in the east-side St. Paul Irish community, and graduated from Harding High School in 1934 and St. Catherine's College in 1938. A phy ed major, she taught high school in St. Paul and Stillwater, Minn., until her marriage on June 4, 1941, to William E. McEwen at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Paul.
