Doris M. Roeske, age 87, formerly of River Falls, passed away on March 6, 2010, in Seymour, Wis. Although Doris was experiencing increasing physical limitations, she still managed to keep her great sense of humor and optimism. Doris was born on Nov. 15, 1922, in Minneapolis, to Irving and Ociel Allison. She was preceded in death by her husband, William V. (Bill) Roeske; and by brother, Mike Allison. She is survived by daughter, Sylvia (Don) Hoffman, Shiocton, Wis.; grandchildren, Jason Hoffman, Oakdale, Minn., and Sabrina (Kasey) Schwietzer, Shawano. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m.
Jocelyn Marie Marhoun, age 21, of Hudson, longtime Ellsworth resident, died peacefully yet unexpectedly Thursday, March 4, 2010, at her residence. Jocelyn was born on Jan. 28, 1989, in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of William and Bonnie Marhoun. She attended Lindgren Elementary and Ellsworth Middle School prior to graduating from Ellsworth Community High School in the class of 2007. She loved all of her friends and being involved in many high school activities. She served as editor of the senior yearbook and captain of the golf team and cheerleading squad.
Christopher "Chris" David Cudd, age 34, of River Falls, died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at his home. Christopher D. Cudd was born on Oct. 28, 1975, in River Falls, the son of David and Rebecca (Kusilek) Cudd. He was a 1994 graduate of River Falls High School, and married Amanda "Mandy" Brunkhorst on August 30, 1997, in Prescott, Wis. Chris was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved to bow hunt. He was a type of guy who loved spending time with his friends and especially his family.
Norvel Radke, "Norvie," age 75, of River Falls, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at River Falls Area Hospital. He was born on Jan. 14, 1935, in Ellsworth, to the late Floyd and Iola (Hanvelt) Radke. Norvel married Amalie Hellmuth on Nov. 14, 1959. Norvel enjoyed going on trips all over the country especially Alaska and spending the winters in Texas. He enjoyed fishing and especially loved playing cards with his grandchildren. Norvel also was known to drive his family home from Mexico a few times. He enjoyed chocolate, Tootsie Pops and cappuccino.
Norman F. Johnson, age 92, of River Falls, died March 2, 2010. Norman was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Pleasant Valley, the son of Nels and Mae (Adkins) Johnson. He lived his entire life in the River Falls area, working at the River Falls Creamery for 15 years, farming for 28 years and also employed in the River Falls school system for 18 years. He served in the Army from July 8, 1941, to October 26, 1945, during WWII. He also served in the Normandy invasion and then the Battles of Northern France. At this time, he was wounded and sent back to England.
Christina Rae "Tina" Wolf, age 20, of River Falls, Wis., died unexpectedly on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010. Tina was born Oct. 1, 1989, in River Falls, the daughter of Mark and Darla (Snover) Wolf. She grew up in River Falls where she attended St. Bridget's School and River Falls Middle School and High School. She graduated with the class of 2008. Following high school, Tina attended cosmetology school in Iowa, and was enrolled at Chippewa Valley Technical College in River Falls.
Clifford Lewis Joseph Holmquist, age 82, of Ellsworth, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at United Hospital, St. Paul, Minn. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, River Falls. Fr. Gerald Harris will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Thomas E. Bloom, D.V.M., age 62, of River Falls, Wis., passed away suddenly on Feb. 20, 2010. He was the first president of the Rotary Club of River Falls and past president of the Arrowhead Veterinary Association. He was an avid ham radio operator, loved the outdoors, was a giver to the community and always thought of others first. Tom will be sadly missed.
Dennis F. Buri, 68, was born August 24, 1941, and died Feb. 21, 2010, at his home in Ellsworth surrounded by his family after a 2-1/2 year battle with cancer. I leave my wife, Myrna (Castleberg) of 46 years and my beloved children, Tasha (Chris) Olson and children Chris Jr. and Jackie of Grantsburg, Jessica (Ryan) Voigt and precious Ruger and Viola of Anchorage, my son, Jennings Buri of Ellsworth; sister, Marci Johnson of Renton, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews of the Dallas, Portland and Seattle areas.
John W. Swenson, 83, of River Falls, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at United Hospital in St. Paul. John was born on April 12, 1926, in River Falls, the son of Walter and Nettie (Anderson) Swenson. He was baptized and confirmed at Rush River Lutheran Church. John attended Gertrude country school, River Falls High School, and finished his education in the Navy. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During WWII, he served on the USS KNOX and saw action in the Pacific Theatre, including the islands of Leyte, Lu Zon and Iwo Jima. In 1945, he was honorably discharged. On Sept.
