John W. Swenson, 83, of River Falls, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at United Hospital in St. Paul. John was born on April 12, 1926, in River Falls, the son of Walter and Nettie (Anderson) Swenson. He was baptized and confirmed at Rush River Lutheran Church. John attended Gertrude country school, River Falls High School, and finished his education in the Navy. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During WWII, he served on the USS KNOX and saw action in the Pacific Theatre, including the islands of Leyte, Lu Zon and Iwo Jima. In 1945, he was honorably discharged. On Sept.
Marian G. Boyd, 99, of Iowa City, died Feb. 15, 2010, at Crestview Care Center in West Branch. The body has been cremated, as requested, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery in River Falls, Wis. Mrs. Boyd was born in 1911 in River Falls. She attended the local schools, graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in elementary education and a minor in art. She was a member of the Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls and also the Zion Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she was honored as Mother of the Year in 1955.
Floyd Schroeder, 91 Died Feb. 16, 2010 Floyd Sherman Schroeder was born Sept. 12, 1918, in River Falls, Wis., where he lived his entire life. He passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at the Valley Grande Manor in Weslaco, Texas. His parents, Garfield and Rose Schroeder, preceded him in death. In 1941, he married Ethel Rossow, who also preceded him in death in January 2000 at Pineto Palm Park. He graduated from River Falls High School in 1936. He attended college at what is now the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
Lisha Jean McLean, age 33, of River Falls, was called home unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at her home. She was born on August 29, 1976, in Coon Rapids, Minn.
Shirley J. Sitz, (nee Swenson), age 85, of River Falls, passed away suddenly in River Falls on Feb. 11, 2010. Shirley was born the second child of Walter and Nettie (Anderson) Swenson in River Falls. She was baptized and confirmed at Rush River Lutheran Church. Shirley attended the Gertrude Country School through 8th grade and graduated from River Falls High School with the class of 1942. Shirley grew up on the family farm in the Town of River Falls with her four sisters and three brothers. After high school, Shirley went to business school and worked in Minneapolis.
Peter P. Rodewald, age 69, of River Falls, Wis., passed away peacefully at Comforts of Home assisted living center on Feb. 10, 2010. Peter was born on Sept. 13, 1940, in Salem Township, Ellsworth, Wis., to Norman and Esther Rodewald. The family lived in Ellsworth, Elmwood and Maiden Rock, Wis., until 1951 when they moved to River Falls. In 1954, the family moved to a farm near Clifton Hollow outside of River Falls where Pete lived until August 2009 when he became a resident at Comforts of Home Assisted Living until his death.
Marie Alice Vanreese, age 58, of River Falls, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. Memorial service will be 12 noon Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Cashman-Hill Funeral Home in River Falls with Father Gerald Harris officiating. Family and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Cashman-Hill Funeral Home & Cremation Services of River Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
Georgiann K. Schmid, 54, of River Falls, Wis., passed away after a short, intense battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Albert Schmid, loving mother of Ron and Karen Schmid. Daughter of George (deceased) and Jeanne Bultman of St Paul, Minn., sister of Char Sprague (Bultman), Dianne Stewart (Bultman), Barb Lynch (Bultman) and Paul Bultman. Adored daughter-in-law of Ron and Paula Schmid and sister-in-law of Cecelia Reetz (Schmid.) 34 year employee of The Travelers (St. Paul Co's) Insurance Company. Georgiann loved to paint, walk in the woods, care for animals and garden.
Helmer Lavern Myhre, age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 4, at his home in Stillwater, Minn. He was born April 2, 1919, in Hudson, Wis., the son of John and Martina (Sampson) Myhre. He was baptized and confirmed at Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls, Wis. He graduated from River Falls High School and attended U.W. Stout. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He and his son Terry owned Globe University for more than 38 years, and he was proud to have helped thousands of students achieve their education goals.
William R. (Bill) Junkman age 91 of River Falls passed away Thursday, Jan. 28. He was born April 28 1918 in Beldenville. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Mabel (Kirschgessner) Junkman; brothers Wayne, Howard and Frederick; and daughter, Mary Jo. He is survived by wife Shirley; children: Ann (Howie) Viita, Sue (Monte) Hansen, William (Deborah) Junkman; brother, Paul; sister, Lois (Guy) Smith; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
