Delmore J. (Del) Anderson, 82, of River Falls, Wis., Jan. 1, 1928 - May 13, 2010. Survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Marilyn; children, David (Michelle) Anderson, Christine (John) Manthey, Susan Anderson, Elizabeth Hilton, Joan (Brian) Tytor; former wife, Bernice Anderson, mother of the children; and brother, Donald (Pat) Anderson of Sonora, Calif. Preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Karen, emigrants from Sweden and Norway; sister, Vivian; brothers, Kenneth, Lloyd and Robert. Del was born and raised in South Minneapolis.
Helen Marie Wiger, age 93, of River Falls, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the River Falls Area Hospital. Helen was born on Nov. 27, 1916, in Preston, Minn., the daughter of Charles and Ellen (Carlson) Christiansen. She was a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in music education. She began teaching in Waupan, Wis. at the age of 19, also teaching in Glenwood City, Wis., and River Falls.
Lee Stanton Atkins, 77, Superior, died April 26, 2010, in a vehicle accident. Born in Wauwatosa, Atkins lived most of his life in River Falls. He entered the U.S. Navy at age 19 and fought in the Korean War. Atkins owned a farm in rural River Falls most of his life then after retiring, spent summers in Superior, Wis., and winters in Siloam Springs, Ark. Esther W. Von Haden, age 77, of River Falls, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at her home. She was born the daughter of Alfred and Almeda (Eid) Blegen on Sept. 15, 1932, in Gilman Township, Wis. On Oct. 17, 1964, Esther married Marvin Von Haden. In 1968, the couple started and established the Viking Inn in Viroqua, Wis. Esther worked in food service most of her life including employment at River Falls High School and River Falls Hospital. Her work ethic was unmatched. To her sons, she was a good role model, showing them a good heart, hard work and tough love.
Emory G. Wrobel, 84, of Eau Claire, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. He was born in Gilmanton on Jan. 8, 1926, a son of Albert and Margaret (Schultz) Wrobel. He married Virgil M. Swanson on March 22, 1952, at East Bennet Valley Church. Emory served in the U.S. Army from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1952. Emory worked for Hamm's Brewery for over forty years as a filling machine operator. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church since 1991.
Dorothy May Hanson, age 83, of River Falls, Wis., passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Kinnic Long Term Care. She was born Jan. 21, 1927, in Lakota, N.D., daughter of James and Eva (Simons) Fahey. Dorothy married Rudolph Hanson on Feb. 1, 1950. In her younger years, she spent her time tending to her gardens; she especially loved her flowers. Rudy and Dorothy had traveled to Hawaii to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary and since that time Dorothy had traveled all over the U.S., taking her grandchildren with her to visit other family members.
Evelyn Carstens, 92, of Columbus, Neb., formerly of Mitchell, S.D., and nine-year resident of River Falls, Wis., died Friday, May 7, 2010 at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus. Funeral services were 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, at Zion Lutheran Church, Mitchell, S.D. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Leona M. Elden, age 84, of Clear Lake, Wis., passed away early on Sunday morning at her home on April 25, 2010. Leona Marien Elden was born on Oct. 20, 1925, in River Falls, Wis., the daughter of Herman and Pauline (Lubich) VonKuster. She grew up in the River Falls area and attended River Falls schools. Leona's family moved to Roberts, Wis., during her high school days and she graduated from Roberts High School in 1943. She then attended Teacher's College in River Falls, graduated, and began teaching school in Clear Lake. Leona was married to Leon H. Elden on July 7, 1949, at St.
Bonnie Jean Traynor, 45, of Ellsworth, Wis., died April 26, 2010, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous 11-month battle with cancer. Bonnie was born July 3, 1964, in Red Wing, Minn., the youngest child of Ronald and Lorena (Richter) Traynor. She attended Lindgren grade school and Ellsworth Jr. and Sr. High, graduating in 1982, being noted for her perfect attendance. She then attended Red Wing Vo-Tech for computer programming.
Arthur G. Hazen, age 87, of Neenah, Wis., and formerly of River Falls, Wis., died on March 13, 2010, at the Vallhaven Care Center in Neenah. Art was born the son of Herbert and Helena (Luther) Hazen on August 29, 1922, in Weyauwega, Wis. He graduated from Weyauwega High School with the class of 1942. After high school, Art enlisted in the Army. After 3 years of service, he held a few different jobs in Chicago, Ill., before re-enlisting in the Army Air Corps.
