Aloha Joan Hovde, age 82, of River Falls, died Friday, August 6, 2010, at the Kinnic Long Term Care Center in River Falls. Aloha was born Feb. 20, 1928, in Troy Township to Ben and Nelle Hovde. She graduated from River Falls High School and the Wisconsin State College in River Falls. She began her teaching career in Ellsworth; she also taught at Eastern Heights and finished her 43 year career at Carver School in Maplewood. She loved to travel; she had been to seven different countries including several trips to Norway.
Geraldine Ann Friederichs, age 53, of River Falls, Wis., died peacefully on August 7, 2010, at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, Minn. Survived by loving husband, Steven Johnson; daughter, Lacey McAleavey; parents, Peter and Elaine Friederichs; siblings, Mae Jones, Douglas (Dorie) Friederichs and Theresa (David) Laidig; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and extended relatives. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in River Falls. Visitation 4-7 p.m.
Michael Eugene "Mike" Krieger, age 39 of Hammond, Wis., died suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis. Funeral services for Mike Krieger will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 9, at the Abundant Life Church, 896 Hwy 65, River Falls, Wis. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church and also from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin, Wis. Wayne Richard Peterson, age 80, of Hudson and formerly of River Falls, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2010, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Private interment in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Edward John Fiedler, age 62, of Prescott, Wis., died Monday, August 2, 2010, at United Hospital, St. Paul, Minn., surrounded by his loving family. Edward was born on August 30, 1947, in River Falls, Wis., the son of Harvey and Joy (Timmerman) Fiedler. He was a graduate of Prescott High School. Edward married Paula Rohl on Sept. 2, 1972, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, in River Falls. Together they farmed in the town of Clifton and raised their family. Edward was an avid snowmobiler, collector of International toy tractors, and was a Packer and Brewers fan.
Toddy Deiss, age 53, was born Oct. 24, 1956, at Fort Lee, Va. She lived in Osceola, Wis., and graduated from Osceola High School in 1975. Toddy left our presence to be with the Lord on Friday, July 30, 2010. Toddy was the dear wife to Terry Deiss; loving mother to Myles and Ethan Deiss and Thia (Joseph) Rewolinski; grandmother to granddaughter Lillie Rewolinski; dear daughter to Don and Cathy Kissler; sister of Dennis (Julie) Kissler and Mary (Scott) Grott. Toddy worked as a master barber for 30 years at Larry's Hair Den and cherished her patrons as special friends.
Ardith M. Christenson, age 87, of River Falls, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at River Falls Area Hospital. She was born on Dec. 25, 1922, (the Christmas Angel), in Cumberland, Wis., daughter of Roy and Blanche (Westgate) Smith. Ardith graduated from New Richmond High School. She received a teaching degree from River Falls Normal School and taught in Star Prairie. She married Levern Christenson in 1944. They lived in Florida while Levern was stationed in Tampa Bay during WWII. They later moved back to rural River Falls and farmed until 1958. The family then moved to Ellsworth.
Richard William Schommer Sr., age 81, died peacefully at his home in Ellsworth on July 28, 2010, surrounded by family. Visitation for friends and family will be from 2-5 p.m. Friday, July 30, at St. Mary's Big River Church in Oak Grove, Township. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. with Fr. Bill Matzek officiating. Interment will be in the church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials for St. Mary's building fund are preferred. Hill Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Ellsworth is assisting the family with arrangements.
Margaret Therese "Peggy" Kennealy (Noonan), age 81, of River Falls, and formerly of St. Paul, died on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at her residence of three years, Comforts of Home in Hudson. She was born the daughter of Earl J. and Eleanor M. (Hogan) Noonan on Nov. 28, 1928, in St. Paul. Peggy went to grade school at Nativity, graduated from Derham Hall High School, attended St. Catherine University and earned an associate degree from the University of Minnesota. Her father worked for Northern Pacific Railroad. Peggy loved traveling by train with her mother and grandmother.
Robert "Bob" Christ Christensen, 82, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan Health Care-All Saints. Bob was born in Racine on July 9, 1928, the son of Christ and Dora (nee Jensen) Christensen. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On Oct. 10, 1953, he was united in marriage to Phyllis L. Zierke at Trinity Lutheran Church. Bob was employed at Racine Wood Products until starting his own business, Christensen Woodwork, Inc. in 1971. He was an active member of Fifth Street Yacht Club and past Commodore.
