Shawn M. McIntyre, age 39, of Baldwin, died as a result of cancer Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Shawn was born on Oct. 23, 1970, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Gary L. and Susan (Bygd) McIntyre. She attended Greenwood Elementary School in River Falls prior to graduating from the Baldwin High School. She furthered her education with an associate degree in hotel, motel, and restaurant management. Over the years, she became proficient in the development and management of commercial property.
Melvin L. Brown, age 93, of River Falls, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at River Falls Area Hospital. He was born in Springfield, Wis., on July 7, 1916, son of Herman and Minnie (Penrud) Brown. Melvin married Mildred Nelson in 1937. After her death, he married the love of his life, Jeanette Anderson, in 1963. Melvin farmed for many of his earlier years in life until 1962, then he started working for the River Falls school system as a custodian and retired at age 65 with 20 years of service. Melvin loved to fish.
Joan Susan (Bliss) Brown, dear and beloved wife of Neil Brown, passed away on Dec. 10, 2009, in Menomonie, Wis. She is survived by four children, Justin Sivertsen, Truckee, Calif., Danelle (Kristopher) Oothoudt, Eden Prairie, Minn., Chelsey Brown, Arcata, Calif., and Matthew Brown, Eau Claire, Wis.; and her grandchildren, Alex and Mason Oothoudt; as well as her mother, Joan Bliss, San Diego, Calif.; sister, Cindi Van Slyke, San Diego; brothers, Walter Bliss, Cottonwood, Calif., Theodore Bliss, San Diego. She was preceded in death by her father, John S. Bliss Sr.
Marion E. Christianson, 96, of Hudson, formerly of River Falls, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at the Hudson Hospital after a bout with pneumonia. She was born the daughter of Walter and Ruth (Laughlin) Scheide on July 13, 1913, in Carrington, N.D. In 1931, Marion graduated from Ellsworth High School and continued her education at the River Falls Teachers College receiving her teaching certificate in 1932. She taught school for 8 years in Esdale, Wis. In August of 1938, she married Norman Christianson at Tabor Church near Bay City. Norman was an officer in the U.S.
Allen Edward Swenson, 102, of River Falls, Wis., passed away on Dec. 10, 2009. Allen was born April 20, 1907, and raised by parents, Albert and Marie Swenson, on a farm near Martell. He married Ruth A. Griffey on Feb. 8, 1936. Allen worked in dairy manufacturing for 37 years. During retirement, Ruth and Allen enjoyed winters in Florida and summers in River Falls. In 2000, they moved back to an apartment in River Falls. He was preceded in death by his 88 year old wife, Ruth, in 2001. He continued to live on his own until a year and a half ago.
James Davis Rupert, age 77, of River Falls, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at Region's Hospital in St. Paul following an apparent stroke. James was born on Sept. 17, 1932, in River Falls, to George and Lillian Rupert. He graduated from River Falls High School and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted in the armed forces where he proudly served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959. On June 23, 1962, he was united in marriage to Alberta L. Luke at St. John's Episcopal Church in Eveleth, Minn.
Robert "Bob" D. Larson died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at the age of 73 after a short battle with pulmonary fibrosis. After serving for 24 years as the executive director of Kinnic Falls Halfway House, Bob enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, Delores. He also enjoyed golfing and spending time with his grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine and Kenneth; sister, Bonnie (Larson) Murray; son, Daniel; and granddaughter, Charity.
Darlene Bertha Emma Ritten, age 73, of River Falls, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at her home. She was born in New York Mills, Minn., on April 24, 1936, daughter of Henry and Helen Brasel. Darlene married Gerald J. Ritten on Oct. 29, 1955, in Fargo, N.D. He precedes her in death. Darlene loved the color red; she also loved Snoopy. She enjoyed going to Curves for Women and then going out for coffee. Spending time at Bill's cabin in Amery on White Ash Lake also brought her pleasure.
Robert "Bob" Baldwin, a former River Falls businessman, died Nov. 15 in Chicago at the age of 62. Baldwin and his wife, Marilynne Felderman, started MFB Corporation in River Falls in the early 1980s. He wrote subscription management and billing software for weekly newspapers.
Judi Schmitt, age 62, of North Hudson, died suddenly Friday, Dec. 4, at the Hudson Hospital emergency room following an apparent heart attack. Mass Of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hudson. Burial will be in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday with a prayer service at 8 p.m. at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson and one hour prior to the mass at church on Wednesday. Memorials preferred.
