Died Sept. 23, 2009 Clarence Strandberg, age 90 of New Richmond, formerly of River Falls, died on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 at the St. Croix Health Center. A funeral service will be held Monday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. at Prairieview Covenant Church in New Richmond. Visitation will also be Monday from 9:30-11 a.m. at the church. The interment will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn. Arrangements are with the Beebe Mortuary of New Richmond.
Jane James, 83, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, at United Hospital in St. Paul There will be a visitation at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church on Monday, Sept. 21. The memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Memorial request is to the United Methodist Church of River Falls.
A native of River Falls, Roger J. Ames came to Pine City, Minn., in 1969 to work for the Pine County Social Service Department. He and Candy Anderson were married in 1970, and Roger began graduate work on an MSW in public policy administration at UMD. After he completed that work in 1975, Roger started employment at the East Central Regional Development Commission in 1976 and retired from that organization as Executive Director in 2000. Roger died on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, his 69th birthday, at North Memorial Medical Center from heart failure after a lengthy illness.
Gerald W. Malmer, formerly of River Falls, age 79, passed away on Sunday Sept. 13, 2009 in Olympia, Wash. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Arlene; brother, John of Hudson, and sons, Dennis of Lacey, Wash., and Terry of Peachtree City, Ga.; and daughters, Debbie of Vancouver, Wash., and Jodel of Hastings, Minn. Burial will take place at the River Falls Greenwood cemetery at a later date.
Mary Jo Wilcoxson, age 69 of rural Hudson, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. A Celebration of Mary Jo's life was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 at Bethel Lutheran Highlands Church, 504 Stageline Road, Hudson with Pastor Brian Ferguson (Mt. Zion Lutheran) officiating. Burial was in the German Settlement Cemetery in rural River Falls. Her grandchildren served as active casketbearers. Visitation was held on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson and one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday morning.
Virginia "Tia" Toston, 85, a resident of Sunny Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Sheboygan, died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was born on Sept. 19, 1923, in Sheboygan, to Leonard and Marie (Flink) Eversdyk. She attended Sheboygan schools, graduating from Sheboygan North. Virginia married Arthur "Bud" Toston on Jan. 22, 1944, in Sheboygan, where he was a long time employee of the Vollrath Company. Bud and Tia moved to River Falls in 1969.
Elva C. Bottolfson Hillebrandt, 97, of River Falls, died on Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at the Kinnic Long Term Care. Elva was born on Aug. 16, 1912, in Lake Benton, Minn., the daughter of Otto and Emma (Albright) Schardin. She attended school through the 8th grade. Elva married Melvin Bottolfson on May 14, 1938. They made their home in Edina, Minn. They later moved to River Falls. Melvin died in 1969. Elva worked for many years at the River Falls Laundry where she was a shirt presser. She later worked for the Kinnic Long Term Care as a nurse's aide.
Karla J. Colegrove, 45, of Maiden Rock, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at River Falls Area Hospital. Karla was born the daughter of LaVerne and Marilyn (Bottolfson) Klingensmith on Oct. 8, 1963, in River Falls. She was confirmed by Pastor Wally Mylander at Bethel Covenant Church and attended Sunday school at Bethlehem Lutheran and Bethel Covenant Church. She graduated from Ellsworth High School with the class of 1982. Karla was employed by Hiawatha National Bank for 19 years. She enjoyed the wonderful relationships she had with her customers at the bank.
Irene Bednarowski, 94, of River Falls, passed away Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Kinnic Long Term Care. She was born in Appleton on July 16, 1915, daughter of William and Anna (Verhoven) Smith. Irene married Paul Bednarowski at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Appleton on June 12, 1937. In Irene's younger years she enjoyed playing golf and tennis. Irene was known for getting along with everybody, and she prayed daily for everyone she knew. She thanked God daily for her many blessings. Family and friends brought her the most joy.
Paul R. Cudd, 86, died on Thursday, Aug. 27, at River Falls Area Hospital. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at Ezekiel Lutheran Church, with Rev. John Henning officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Sunday, at Ezekiel Lutheran Church from 4-8 p.m. and again on Monday one hour prior to the funeral at church.
