Mary Alice Peterson, age 83, of River Falls, passed away Friday, June 12, 2009, at her residence after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Michael Edward Gavin, age 56, of River Falls, Wis., died on Thursday afternoon, June 11, 2009 at his home in River Falls. Funeral services on Tuesday, June 16 at St Bridget's Catholic Church in River Falls at 10:30 a.m. Burial following at the St. Bridget's Catholic Church Cemetery. Father Jerry Harris officiating. Visitations on Monday, June 15 at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson from 4-8 p.m. as well as at the church on Tuesday, one hour before service. David W. Johnson, 92, of Ellsworth, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at the Ellsworth Care Center. David was born on Oct. 4, 1916, in Stockholm, the son of Hilding and Frankie (Nygard) Johnson. He was a longtime Pierce County farmer and Armours Meats employee. He married Isabel Larson. David loved his grandkids and great-grandkids, going for drives, and had a great sense of humor.
Todd I. Stedtfeld, age 61, of River Falls, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at his residence. He was born on Aug. 4, 1947, in Fresno, Calif., to Robert and Ellen (Wilson) Hontani. Todd graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, and went on to start his own law firm, Stedtfeld Law, in Woodbury, Minn. For almost 30 years, Todd has been married to his beloved wife, Mary Ellen (nee Wieland). Together, with some friends, they founded Citizens for the Preservation of the St. Croix (CPSC). He was also a member of the Sierra Club and enjoyed fishing.
Margaret C. "Marge" Hauk, 81, of Cassville, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2009, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in rural Lancaster, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Feb.10, 1928, in Cassville, the daughter of Louis and Alberta (Scanlan) Uppena. After graduating from Cassville High School, Marge attended Electronics School in Minneapolis. On Aug. 19, 1946, Marge was united in marriage to Walter Hauk at St.
Leona Ann Beskar, 93, of Prescott, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at her home. Leona was born on Nov. 22, 1915, in the town of White Bear Lake, Minn., the daughter of Philip and Louise (Kohler) Buberl. She was a graduate of White Bear Lake High School. Leona was a White Bear girl, who met, and later married a Big River farmer, Leo J. Beskar. Leona was the founder of the Big River Hustlers 4-H club and long-time 4-H leader. She was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Altar Society, and current member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. As a member of St.
Dr. O. B. "Ben" Bergsrud died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, May 30, 2009. He was 83 years old. Ben was born on March 19, 1926, at his grandfather's home in Black Hammer Township, Minn. His early education was in a one-room country school, and he graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1944. On the Fourth of July, following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for two years. Following his discharge, he attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and graduated in 1950. His first teaching and coaching positions were in Moorland, Iowa, and Whitehall.
Paul Michael Schmeling, 56, was born on July 5, 1952, in Springfield, Ill., the son of Arlyn L. and Evelyn H. (nee Heldt) Schmeling. He was baptized into the Kingdom of God and made an heir of eternal life through the cleansing of Holy Baptism on July 13, 1952, in Springfield. He attended elementary school at St. John Evangelical Lutheran School in Two Rivers. On Palm Sunday, April 3, 1966, he publicly confessed his Christian faith and promised to remain faithful until death to his Savior Jesus Christ.
