Peter P. Rodewald, age 69, of River Falls, Wis., passed away peacefully at Comforts of Home assisted living center on Feb. 10, 2010. Peter was born on Sept. 13, 1940, in Salem Township, Ellsworth, Wis., to Norman and Esther Rodewald. The family lived in Ellsworth, Elmwood and Maiden Rock, Wis., until 1951 when they moved to River Falls. In 1954, the family moved to a farm near Clifton Hollow outside of River Falls where Pete lived until August 2009 when he became a resident at Comforts of Home Assisted Living until his death.
Marie Alice Vanreese, age 58, of River Falls, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. Memorial service will be 12 noon Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Cashman-Hill Funeral Home in River Falls with Father Gerald Harris officiating. Family and friends are invited to call from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Cashman-Hill Funeral Home & Cremation Services of River Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
Georgiann K. Schmid, 54, of River Falls, Wis., passed away after a short, intense battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Albert Schmid, loving mother of Ron and Karen Schmid. Daughter of George (deceased) and Jeanne Bultman of St Paul, Minn., sister of Char Sprague (Bultman), Dianne Stewart (Bultman), Barb Lynch (Bultman) and Paul Bultman. Adored daughter-in-law of Ron and Paula Schmid and sister-in-law of Cecelia Reetz (Schmid.) 34 year employee of The Travelers (St. Paul Co's) Insurance Company. Georgiann loved to paint, walk in the woods, care for animals and garden.
Helmer Lavern Myhre, age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 4, at his home in Stillwater, Minn. He was born April 2, 1919, in Hudson, Wis., the son of John and Martina (Sampson) Myhre. He was baptized and confirmed at Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls, Wis. He graduated from River Falls High School and attended U.W. Stout. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He and his son Terry owned Globe University for more than 38 years, and he was proud to have helped thousands of students achieve their education goals.
William R. (Bill) Junkman age 91 of River Falls passed away Thursday, Jan. 28. He was born April 28 1918 in Beldenville. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Mabel (Kirschgessner) Junkman; brothers Wayne, Howard and Frederick; and daughter, Mary Jo. He is survived by wife Shirley; children: Ann (Howie) Viita, Sue (Monte) Hansen, William (Deborah) Junkman; brother, Paul; sister, Lois (Guy) Smith; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Jacob Michael Braasch, age 24, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at the River Falls Area Hospital. Jacob was born in St. Paul, Minn., on Jan. 28, 1986, the son of Lester and Terrie (Joy) Braasch. He was a graduate of River Falls High School. Jacob is survived by his parents, Lester and Terrie Braasch, River Falls, Wis.; sisters, Rachel Braasch, River Falls, Sarah Braasch, Paris, France; brother, Aaron Braasch, Detroit Lakes, Minn.; maternal grandparents, June and Ronald Joy, Detroit Lakes; paternal grandmother, Clarice Braasch, Detroit Lakes. Jacob was preceded in death by his grandfather, A.
Dennis M. Rud, age 55, of Beldenville, Wis., died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, as a result of injuries in an automobile accident. Dennis was born August 22, 1954, to Rosie Rud in River Falls, Wis. He was baptized and confirmed and a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church, rural Baldwin. Dennis attended Baldwin-Woodville Schools graduating with the class of 1973. On Dec. 17, 1977, Dennis married Cindy Ray. Dennis spent a lot of time with his grandparents and was very close to them. After his marriage to Cindy, they farmed with his grandparents for a few years.
Josephine M. Bjerstedt, age 98, of River Falls, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at River Falls Area Hospital. She was born on Sept. 18, 1911, daughter of Clarence and Catherine (Moelter) Hill. Josephine was united in marriage for 50 years to Severd Bjerstedt. She was a patient lady who was known for her cooking. She enjoyed gardening; especially for growing flowers. She loved to travel and took many bus tours throughout the United States. She enjoyed fishing at the cabin.
ST. CROIX FALLS - A gathering to remember Jerry Ackerley, 45, of River Falls, formerly of Frederic, will be held Saturday, Jan. 23, at St. Croix Valley Funeral Home and Crematorium in St. Croix Falls. Ackerley died Wed., Jan. 20, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. He is the son of the late George and Jan Ackerley of Frederic. Morris TeWinkel, age 91, of River Falls, passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at Kinnic Long Term Care in River Falls. Morris was born at home on a small farm outside of Baldwin, the fourth of nine children. He attended school, farmed and helped his father haul milk through his youth. The family moved to River Falls for his senior year of high school, from where he graduated in 1936. After high school, he worked for his uncle's River Falls store, where he learned his electrical skills. During this time he met, courted, and married Margaret Ward of St. Paul.
