James Robert Larson "Jim" "Meatman", age 63, of River Falls, passed away on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at the Augustana Health Care Center in Hastings, Minn. He was born in Eau Claire on Dec. 9, 1945, son of Stanley and Luverne (Ullman) Larson. Jim married Sharon (Rock-Burdick) on Dec. 12, 1980. The Larson family was a real presence on main street River Falls for many years. Jim began his career as a carry out boy for Larson's Super Value. He later owned his own meat business as Larson's Meats and went on to work as a meat cutter for Knowlans Groceries, St. Paul.
Elizabeth Alberta (Lamb) Yatckoske, 71, of River Falls, Wis., passed away on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, from colon cancer, at the United Hospital, St. Paul, Minn. Elizabeth was born on April 11, 1938, in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Charles William and Alice (Erickson) Lamb. She was a graduate of South High School, Minn., in 1956. She later continued her education at the Vocational Tech College in New Richmond, Wis. She married Lester Gorden Yatckoske on March 1, 1958. He preceded her in death in July 1979. They settled in Roberts, Wis., in 1966.
Harriet Josephine Frank, age 86 of Deer Park, Wis., died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at "Our House" Assisted Living, River Falls, Wis. Harriet was born to Frank and Anna (Behl) Suckow on Dec. 3, 1922, in Forest, Wis. She was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Forest. When she was three years old, her family moved to Holloway, Minn. There she attended Rural District 14 Country School for eight years and high school at Holloway where she graduated in 1941. Her family then moved back to their farm in Forest in 1941.
Eugene Thomas "Skip" Loiselle, age 57, of River Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at his home. He was born the son of Eugene L. and Donna (Gilson) Loiselle on June 30, 1952, in Chippewa Falls, Wis. He graduated from high school there and proudly served in the US Air Force. In 1976, he married Cindy Otto. They would be blessed with two children, Kurtis and Kristi. Skip was currently the night manager at the EconoFoods in River Falls. He was a Green Bay Packer FANATIC, he cherished vacation time spent soaking up the sun on a beach, and he loved to play golf.
Died Nov. 20, 2009 Anna Marie Janisch, age 88, of Ellsworth, died Friday, Nov. 20, at her home. Anna was born on April 4, 1921, in the town of River Falls (Cherma), the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Krejcie) Kordoski. She married Clair Joseph Janisch on Oct. 3, 1945, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cherma. Anna was a loving wife and mother who devoted herself to caring for her son Paul for 51 years. Anna was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, and Altar and Rosary Society.
Died Nov. 23, 2009 Rosalie E. Strand, age 81, of Bay City, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Regina Medical Center, Hastings, Minn. Funeral services for Rosalie were held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at Bethel Covenant Church, Ellsworth. Rev. Greg Fondell officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, River Falls. Died Nov. 24, 2009 At 82 years, Mary passed away while resting peacefully at the Comforts of Home in River Falls on Nov. 24, 2009. She was preceded in death by husband, Clarence (Chub), and is survived by children, Tom, Jim (Marti), Mike (Valerie), the twins Chuck (Lori) and Cathy (Scott) Janello, Rob Meers and Smokey Combs, and a multitude of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. We love you Mary - your kooky sense of humor will be missed by us all. A memorial service was held Tuesday, Dec. 1, at St. Bridget's Church, River Falls, Wis.
Died Nov. 22, 2009 Longtime pilot and cattleman, Ken Speer, of Emerald, Wis., flew west Nov. 22, 2009. Ken was born March 18, 1924, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Clayton and Lucille Speer. He spent much of his youth in Leeds, Iowa, and has lived in California, Washington state, Hawaii, and River Falls, Wis. Emerald Township had been his home since 1993. Aviation was Ken's life. Ken was a B17 captain for the Mighty Eight Air Force based in England during WWII. Ken flew out of Japan during the Korean War, and flew private contract during the Vietnam conflict.
Kenneth D. Speer, age 85, of Emerald Township-rural Glenwood City, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at Comforts Of Home in Baldwin. A time to reflect and celebrate the life of Kenneth Speer will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin. Interment will be private. Funeral services entrusted to the O'Connell Family Funeral Home with cremation services coordinated by Countyside Crematory of Baldwin.
Died Nov. 15, 2009 Lanny Ray Saumer, age 60, of River Falls, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at the VA Medical Center, Minneapolis, Minn., following a battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Lanny was born on Jan. 21, 1948, in Montevideo, Minn., the son of Herbert and Ruth (Gamm) Saumer. He was a graduate of Montevideo High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving two years with a stint in Vietnam. Upon returning from the service, he went to St. Cloud State University and received a degree in education. Lanny married Karen Chance from Albert Lea, Minn., in 1973.
