Irving E. Hughes, age 85, of River Falls, Wis., died on Dec. 26, 2010, at the Kinnic Long Term Care Facility with family at his side. Irving was born on Aug. 15, 1925, to James Lee and Mary Hughes in Hudson Township. He married Lorraine Bonnes on May 14, 1947, and settled in River Falls. Irving was a longtime businessman of the community, owning and operating Hughes Construction Company and, along with his wife, owned and managed the Loring Apartments that he also built. He was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and served on the building committee.
Norris E. Johnson, 96, died Dec. 21, 2010, at River Falls Area Hospital in River Falls, Wis. A former resident of Spring Valley, Minn., Norris was born May 21, 1914, in Preston, Minn., to Henry and Lydia (Storelee) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed in Union Prairie Lutheran Church of Lanesboro. He attended country school and graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1931. After graduation, he worked on the family farm and was employed by the Agricultural Adjustment Administration. In 1946 he married Margaret Willson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Lorraine Venone Hanson, age 88, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at the Kinnic Long Term Care, River Falls. Lorraine was born on Dec. 21, 1922, in the town of Trenton, Pierce County, to Enoch and Anna (Lynner) Nelson. She attended Plainview School. Lorraine married Melvin Hanson on February 14, 1947 at the Bethel Covenant Church Parsonage. She farmed and worked for many years for the Rivera Cabinet Co. in Red Wing, Minn. She loved socializing, traveling, and making sure no one went hungry.
Claude D. Pace, age 80, of River Falls, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at River Falls Area Hospital. He was born Oct. 24, 1930, to George C. and Esther C. (Plumley) Pace. He graduated from River Falls High School in 1948. He went into the Armed Forces Aug. 24, 1951, and was stationed in Korea until May 1953. He married Katherine Kirchner on March 2, 1954. Claude held several jobs working with the public, including: South St.
Thomas Dorsey, age 80, of Baldwin-Cylon (former St. Croix County Board of Supervisors chairman) died peacefully Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, surrounded by his loving family, at the Baldwin Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas Dorsey will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Erin Prairie. Burial will be in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Cylon. Visitation will befrom 3-8 p.m. Monday at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin and one hour prior to the Mass at church on Tuesday morning. Memorials preferred.
Frank O. Swanson, age 96, of River Falls, died on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Frank was born the son of Oscar and Ida (Anderson) Swanson on April 17, 1914, in Osceola, Wis. He graduated from Hawkins High School with the class of 1932. After high school, he farmed and worked in the Sash and Door Factory in Hawkins until saving enough to attend River Falls Teachers College. He graduated from River Falls with the class of 1941. He served in the Army as a first sergeant from 1941 to 1945. Frank married Marie Ensign on Nov. 27, 1941, in River Falls.
Michael A. Hansen, age 60, of River Falls, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at his residence. He was born in Minneapolis on Dec. 9, 1950. He served honorably in the Marine Corps from 1967 to 1973. Mike was always known as Uncle Mike. He treated his nieces as his own. He loved his family. He enjoyed watching all sports, playing fantasy football and skiing. He worked for Firestone in River Falls for 13 years. He especially loved to spend time with his dog, Princess.
Francis John Ebben, age 90, of River Falls, died peacefully Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Comforts of Home in River Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hudson with Fr. Dan Dahlberg officiating. Music will be provided by the Hope Choir. Full military honors will be provided by the Hudson VFW and American Legion. Burial will be in the Chapman Cemetery in Niagara, Wis. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday.
Clifford "Skip" Larson, age 79, of Woodville, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, snow blowing outside his home in Woodville. Skip was born July 29, 1931, the son of Selmer and Edna (Mathison) Larson in Eau Galle Township, Wis. He attended the Loyalty Country School south of Woodville, which consisted of one classroom. During that time he was the only student in his class. His mother was his teacher for two years. He graduated from Woodville High School with the class of 1949. Skip married his wife, Carole Grinley, on June 9, 1956, at Zion Lutheran Church in Woodville.
Barbara Kay Raymo, age 49, of Hammond, Wis., formerly of River Falls, Wis., died on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, after an extended illness. Barb was born on May 26, 1961, in Stillwater, Minn., to parents, Earl William and Yvonne Mildred (nee Anderson) Raymo. Barb was raised in the Houlton area, and attended both Houlton and E.P.
