Debbie Meyer, 53, of River Falls, died Thursday, June 3, 2010, at her home after a long struggle with cancer. Debbie was born March 28, 1957, to Dorothy and Norbert Meyer. She attended the River Falls schools and graduated in 1975. After attending vocational school, she started her own cleaning service with many local businesses as her clients. In August 1997, she began working for the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, first as a custodian and later transferred to the mailroom. Most recently she was the inventory control coordinator.
Alice Frances Singleton O'Malley of River Falls, age 101 and 360 days, born June 1, 1908, passed away peacefully May 27, 2010, with family at her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; three sisters; and one grandson, Jimmy. She is survived by five sons, Pat (Dianne), Jimmy (Tresa), David (Ruth), Jerry, and Tim (Barb); a daughter, Helen (Phil); and a large extended family. She taught at St. Bridget's for 34+ years. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, River Falls. Fr. Gerald Harris will officiate.
Joan LaPorte, age 74, of River Falls, Wis., died on Tuesday, May 25, at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. Joan was born the daughter of Carl and Marian (Strubbe) Barker on April 20, 1936, in Ladysmith, Wis. She attended the Glen Flora schools. On May 8, 1954, Joan married Ray LaPorte in Ladysmith. Joan worked at the hospital in Prescott, Wis., and then spent 25 years with Smead Manufacturing in both Hastings and River Falls. She enjoyed quilting, reading, playing cards, and jigsaw puzzles.
Melva Marie Raasch, age 85, of Prescott, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010, at United Hospital in St. Paul. She was born in River Falls on Feb. 13, 1925, daughter of Jacob and Anna (Matzek) Cernohous. Melva owned and operated "The Gift Shop" for many years in Prescott. She loved to play bridge, poker, euchre, basically all card games. In her earlier years, she enjoyed bowling. Ralph and Melva traveled to many different countries. Melva was a long time member of St.
Andrew "Andy" Lindberg, 24, of River Falls, Wis., formerly of Sparta, Wis., passed away Friday, May 21, 2010, in Ellsworth, Wis., as a result of an automobile accident. Andy was born Jan. 1, 1986, to Kerry and Sharon (Graffunder) Lindberg, who delivered him at home. He attended Tarr Valley School outside of Tomah through the ninth grade. In 2004, Andy graduated from Sparta High School and went on to pursue a degree in sound engineering in Madison. In 2007, he began his career as a sound engineer and then started his own business, 3rd Shift Productions.
Sharon "Kae" Weiss was born in Greene County, Iowa, April 22, 1939, to Daniel and Ruth Wilson and passed away May 18, 2010, from many health issues. The family moved many times while she was growing up, from Iowa to Minnesota, then to Wisconsin. Kae attended her freshman and sophomore year at Hudson High School and her junior and senior year at Roberts. After graduation, she worked at the New Richmond Hospital and Minnesota Mutual Insurance in St. Paul. Kae and Jerry Weiss were married August 16, 1958, and to them four children were born: Brian, Brent, Becky, and Beth.
Willa J. Anderson, age 85, of Stockholm, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 16, 2010, after a short struggle with cancer at the Pepin Manor, where she had been a resident for a few weeks. She was born Sept. 13, 1924, in Rock Elm, Wis., the daughter of Claude and Ina Lou (Betterly) Burgess. Willa graduated from Ellsworth High School and worked at the St. Paul Hotel, Montgomery Wards, and Northwest Airlines as a grease monkey, parts runner and riveter.
Judith A. Ott, age 65, of Calumet/Nevis, Minn., and formerly of River Falls, Wis., died on May 15, 2010, at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minn.
Donald D. Mueller, age 81, of River Falls, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at his residence. He was born in River Falls on Jan. 19, 1929, son of Harry and Myrtle (Ellsworth) Mueller. Don married the love of his life, Gloria P. Levin, on March 26, 1955. To this union, three daughters were born: Holly, Heidi and Lori. Don was born on the family farm in Kinnickinnic Township. Don bought the family farm from his dad in 1965 and remained there until the time of his death. He was a professed farmer and operated a Grade A dairy farm and also raised beef and hogs.
Delmore J. (Del) Anderson, 82, of River Falls, Wis., Jan. 1, 1928 - May 13, 2010. Survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Marilyn; children, David (Michelle) Anderson, Christine (John) Manthey, Susan Anderson, Elizabeth Hilton, Joan (Brian) Tytor; former wife, Bernice Anderson, mother of the children; and brother, Donald (Pat) Anderson of Sonora, Calif. Preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Karen, emigrants from Sweden and Norway; sister, Vivian; brothers, Kenneth, Lloyd and Robert. Del was born and raised in South Minneapolis.
