Mabel Flo, age 87, of Ellsworth, Wis., passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sept. 25, 2010. She died of heart failure in the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Minneapolis after being under hospice care for only three days. Funeral services for Mabel will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Hill Funeral Home, Ellsworth. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ellsworth. Helen R. Reis-Morseth, age 98, of River Falls, Wis., died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Kinnic Long Term Care, River Falls. She was born on August 20, 1912, in the town of River Falls, Pierce County, Wis., the daughter of Frank and Antonia (Peters) Pechacek. Helen married Walter G. Reis at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cherma, (rural River Falls) on Oct. 14, 1935. Walter passed away on Dec. 6, 1945. She later married Edwin Morseth on March 19, 1966. He died in October of 1970. Helen raised her family and worked at various jobs throughout her life. She was currently a member of St.
Daniel Allen Morrow died unexpectedly of sudden coronary arrest at the family farm in River Falls on Friday afternoon, Sept.17, 2010. He was 50 years old. Dan was born at the River Falls City Hospital on Oct. 22, 1959, and graduated from River Falls High School in 1977. Dan lived in the River Falls area his whole life and became known as the guy who could fix anything. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, hiking and raising/harvesting ginseng and was an avid collector of Paleo-Indian artifacts, some of which are displayed at the Science Museum of Minnesota.
Donald Ditlov Aspenes, 79, died on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, surrounded by family. Don died as he lived, with tremendous grace. Born on June 18, 1931, to Ditlov and Kathryn Aspenes of Ladysmith, Wis., Don became a man at an early age, looking out for his mother and siblings during the Great Depression while his father was away at a TB sanitarium. Young Don formed his faith in God after he rescued a drowning girl from the rusty waters of the Flambeau River. He graduated from Ladysmith High School salutatorian of his class and an All-State football player.
Monica Dusek, a longtime resident of Ellsworth and River Falls, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at her home in Florence, Ore. Monica had moved to Florence in 2007 to be closer to her daughter. Monica was born in Albany, Minn., on July 22, 1916, to Alex and Katherine Brandtner. She had 11 siblings of whom two survive (Claude Brandtner of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Louise Henrikson of Palm Coast, Fla.) Monica moved with her family to Ellsworth in 1927. She married Robert Kitch in 1939 and they had two children, Nancy (Kitch) Sobottka (Shawn Murray) and Robert Kitch Jr. (Joan) of Wheeler, Wis.
Margaret Eleanor Johnson, 94, died Sept. 16, 2010, at her Wellhaven Senior apartment in River Falls. A former resident of Spring Valley, Minn., she was born in rural Mower County, July 5, 1916, to Clarke and Flora (Swering) Willson. She attended country school and graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1933. Margaret attended Minneapolis Business College and the Minneapolis School of Art. She worked for ten years at the Osterud Insurance Agency in Spring Valley. In 1946, she married Norris E. Johnson of Lanesboro, Minn., at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Frank Roderick Owen, age 31, of River Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010. He was born the son of Roderick D. and Rosemary M. (Peterson) Owen on June 27, 1979. Frank graduated from River Falls High School in 1998. He went to further schooling, learning the trades of carpentry, computer programming, and cooking. Last week, Frank graduated with a degree in culinary arts from the Art Institute of Minneapolis. Presently, he had been working at Menards in Hudson. Frank was proud of becoming an Eagle Scout and he enjoyed all types of gardening.
Elaine C. Wood, 90, formerly of Clarence, N.Y., former one-room school teacher, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at the Niagara Lutheran Home and Rehab Center in Buffalo, N.Y. She was born in River Falls, Wis., on Feb. 22, 1920, daughter of Axel and Eva (Jorstad) Clausen, sister of the late Stanley and Stanford Clausen. She had been a resident of Clarence for many years. She was always an excellent student and began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Wisconsin after graduating from college at the age of 17.
Betty L. Myhre (Beardsley), age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010. She was born at home in Ellsworth, Wis., to Melvin and Mildred (Eaton) Beardsley on July 26, 1920. She was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church for over 60 years. She attended elementary school in Baronett, Wis., middle school in Cumberland, Wis., and graduated from high school in Grand Junction, Colo. Betty loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, enjoyed flowers and gardening, and traveling with her husband and poodle on many motor home trips.
Don Page passed away surrounded by family on Sept. 14, 2010. Donald Arthur Page was born August 8, 1927, to A.R. and Sophie Page in Whitewater, Wis. He graduated from Madison West High School in 1945 after leading the Regents to the State Basketball Championship. Following high school Don joined the Navy. After WWII he returned to Madison and attended the University of Wisconsin, lettering twice each in basketball and tennis. He graduated in 1950 with a degree in physical education and accepted a teaching and coaching position in Edgerton, Wis.
