Walter Charles Miller, age 94, passed away on Dec. 11, 2010, at the Lake Ridge Nursing Home in Roseville, Minn., with family at his side. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn (Krupp); father, Martin E. Miller; mother, Wyola (Wiseman) Miller; and sister Martha Roebert. Walter, known as Bud, is survived by his son, Robert Miller; daughter, Kathryn Kramber; sister Marion Bush; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Interment will take place at St.
Paul H. Augustine, age 79, of Hastings, Minn. A devout family man and ski business pioneer who has gone to rest after passing away on Jan. 1, 2011, in the loving arms of his wife, Rosemary, at Afton Care St. Croix in Afton, Minn. Also survived by sons, John (Monica) of Stillwater and David (Tracie) of Woodbury; daughter, Amy (John) Reents of Hastings; brother Robert of Hastings; sisters, Rose Sieben of Hastings and Sr. Dolores Augustine of Monroe, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and many other relatives, co-workers, and friends.
Lucile M. Crownhart Hunter Vorwald Abrahamson, age 93, of River Falls, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at the Kinnic Long Term Care Center. The daughter of Maurice and Myrtle (Halberg) Crownhart, Lucile Mertes Crownhart was born Feb. 1, 1917, in Balsam Lake, Wis. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Grantsburg Lutheran Church. On July 1, 1943, she married Henry Daniel "Dan" Hunter of Siren, Wis., at Mare Island Naval Chapel in Vallejo, Calif. The couple was blessed with three children, Larry, Susan and Ruth Ann.
Dorothy Sunstrom, 84 Died Dec. 28, 2010 Dorothy Marie (Johnson) Sunstrom, age 84, of Richfield, died peacefully in her home on Dec. 28, 2010. She was born to John Oscar and Marie Johnson on May 23, 1926, in River Falls, Wis. She was a very loving homemaker devoted to caring for her husband and family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Elwood. She is survived by her children, Ron (Carolyn) of McKinney, Texas, Sharyl (Harry) Weiss of Minneapolis, Bob (Pat) of Hinckley and Joan (Tomas) Herrera of Coon Rapids.
Nellie H. Wittwer, age 80, of River Falls, Wis., died on Monday, Dec. 27, 2010. A memorial service for Nellie Wittwer will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the First Baptist Church of River Falls with Pastor Philip M. Bushy officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be held at a later date. James Richard Flanscha, age 49, of Hudson, died suddenly as a result of a heart attack on Friday morning, Dec. 24, 2010, at the Hudson Hospital. James was born on March 15, 1961, in Hudson, Wis., the son of Alvin and Donna (Spurlock) Flanscha. He was raised in River Falls where he attended St. Bridget's Parochial School before graduating from the River Falls High School. In October of 1992, he was married to the former Shelby Podgorak. To this union, daughters Daniele and Amanda were born. This union would later dissolve. For many years, he worked as a truck driver for Waste Management.
Karen Mae (Gifford) Siler, age 66, of Baldwin, died peacefully Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, surrounded by her loving family at the Baldwin Area Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Lovestrand officiating. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery in Downsville, Wis. A visitation will be held at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday morning.
Irving E. Hughes, age 85, of River Falls, Wis., died on Dec. 26, 2010, at the Kinnic Long Term Care Facility with family at his side. Irving was born on Aug. 15, 1925, to James Lee and Mary Hughes in Hudson Township. He married Lorraine Bonnes on May 14, 1947, and settled in River Falls. Irving was a longtime businessman of the community, owning and operating Hughes Construction Company and, along with his wife, owned and managed the Loring Apartments that he also built. He was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and served on the building committee.
Norris E. Johnson, 96, died Dec. 21, 2010, at River Falls Area Hospital in River Falls, Wis. A former resident of Spring Valley, Minn., Norris was born May 21, 1914, in Preston, Minn., to Henry and Lydia (Storelee) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed in Union Prairie Lutheran Church of Lanesboro. He attended country school and graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1931. After graduation, he worked on the family farm and was employed by the Agricultural Adjustment Administration. In 1946 he married Margaret Willson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Lorraine Venone Hanson, age 88, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at the Kinnic Long Term Care, River Falls. Lorraine was born on Dec. 21, 1922, in the town of Trenton, Pierce County, to Enoch and Anna (Lynner) Nelson. She attended Plainview School. Lorraine married Melvin Hanson on February 14, 1947 at the Bethel Covenant Church Parsonage. She farmed and worked for many years for the Rivera Cabinet Co. in Red Wing, Minn. She loved socializing, traveling, and making sure no one went hungry.
