Sterling Leighton Boatman passed away on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, in Red Wing, Minn. He was born on Nov. 18, 1949, to Harold and Vera Boatman in Red Wing. Sterling graduated from Ellsworth High School and attended University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Hollyce Falde, age 83, of Spring Valley, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at the Spring Valley Health Care Center. Memorial services for Hollyce will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, with Rev. D. Peter Friberg officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Memorial visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, is handling arrangements.
Duane Kuschel, age 70, of Roberts, Wis., died on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at the Hudson Hospital. Duane was born May 27, 1940, in Prescott, Wis., to parents Clarence Joseph and Maie Laura (Mausolf) Kuschel. Duane attended Prescott High School. On Jan. 30, 1960, Duane would be united in marriage to Janice LaVon Anderson. Together, Duane and Jan would be blessed with three daughters and over 50 years of marriage. Duane owned and operated Roberts Decorating, where he was known throughout St. Croix and Pierce Counties as the guy to call for painting and wallpapering jobs.
Donna M. Peck, age 85, a longtime resident of Hammond, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at the American Heritage Care Center where she lived since 2003. She was born the daughter of Alfred and Rose (Boesel) Ecker on Feb. 11, 1925, in Baldwin. Donna graduated from Hammond High School in 1944 and on Aug. 3, 1945, she married George Peck at the North Rush River Church. George and Donna liked to visit relatives in the area and in South Dakota and Milwaukee. She spent many years babysitting for people and always remembered a birthday for her relatives with a card in the mail.
D. Virginia Griffey, 90, passed away at the Kinnic Long Term Care Center on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, after a short illness. She was born to Lawrence and Etta (Hansen) Biller on June 5, 1920, in Glen Flora, Wis., where she grew up and went to school. She graduated from Tony High School and attended what is now known as University of WI-River Falls, where she earned a three-year teaching certificate. Virginia taught third and fourth grade one year in Tony, Wis., before marrying Gordon Griffey of River Falls. They were married on May 28, 1942.
Audrey E. Hanvelt, age 89, of River Falls, formerly of Elmwood, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at The Lutheran Home in River Falls. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Rock Elm United Methodist Church, rural Elmwood, with Rev. Charles DeMaris officiating. Burial will be in the Poplar Hill Cemetery-Rock Elm, rural Elmwood. Friends may call 1 hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Rhiel Funeral Home of Elmwood is serving the family.
MaryAnn B. Hansen, 78, of New Richmond, passed away peacefully in her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born to Bennie and Mae Austrum on March 4, 1932, in the Town of Martell, Wis. She attended Valley View Elementary School in Pleasant Valley and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1950. On Jan. 21, 1951, she married Lloyd Finstad, and to this union four children were born. Later, she married Harvey Hansen on Jan. 24, 1970, and they had one child together.
Loris "Sweetie" L. Paulson, age 85, of River Falls, died Jan. 20, 2011, at The Lutheran Home in River Falls after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Sweetie was born on Oct. 2, 1925, in River Falls, to Harry and Myrtle (Ellsworth) Mueller. She was a graduate of River Falls High School. Upon graduation she moved to Chicago and then to Nebraska where she met and married James Paulson in 1956. The young couple moved to Colorado and then to California where they resided for many years.
Walter E. Olien, age 85, of New Richmond, died on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at Westfields Hospital in New Richmond. Walter was born the son of Elmer and Nellie (Brevold) Olien on March 16, 1925, in New Richmond. He attended school in New Richmond before serving his country in the Army during WWII. On June 28, 1947, Walter was married to Mary Elaine O'Connell in New Richmond. Walter was a carpenter, and worked many years for New Richmond Construction.
Harold Jacobson, age 87, of Baldwin, Wis., and formerly of Hammond, Wis., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at the Baldwin Care Center. Funeral services for Harold Jacobson will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Hammond. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the church and from 4-7 p.m. Monday evening, with a 6:30 p.m. Masonic service, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton St., Baldwin.
