Maurice A. Fern, age 78, of River Falls, Wis., passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn. He was born July 28, 1932, in Baldwin, son of Arnold and Cora (Helders) Fern. He grew up in the Baldwin and New Richmond area. Maurice was married to Hazel Von Kuster on July 11, 1953, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in River Falls. After high school he worked installing siding and roofing houses. He also worked on cargo ships in the Great Lakes. He served in the 11th Airborne Division of the Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War.
Brad O. "Oly" Johnson, age 51, of River Falls, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, August 27, 2010, at home. He was born April 3, 1959, in River Falls, son of Lynn and Irene (Carlson) Johnson. Brad graduated from River Falls High School in 1977; he loved playing football during those years. He was united in marriage to Connie (Bernhoft) Hubbard on August 17, 2002, at Rush River Lutheran Church. Brad was an avid hunter; he especially enjoyed whitetail and turkey hunting with his family and friends and also his dogs. He was also a talented handyman.
Ruby Burnadette Chapin Bestul, age 83, of Baldwin, Wis., died peacefully Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at the Baldwin Care Center. Ruby was born on Oct. 10, 1926, in St. Paul, Minn., the third of six children born to Burdette and Dora "Dorothy" (Nelson, Nielsen) Chapin. Ruby was called to her eternal home on August 25, 2010, at the Baldwin Care Center. Ruby married Edgar L. Kaylor on July 18, 1963. Ed died in 1969. She later married Lyal Eugene Bestul on July 4, 1986. Lyal died in a tragic accident on May 24, 2006, in Mesa, Ariz.
Edward Vincent Marek Jr., age 71, of River Falls, died Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the Gathering at Boutwell's Landing, Oak Park Heights, Minn. Edward was born on April 9, 1939, in Prescott, Wis., the son of Edward Sr. and Myrtle (Arell) Marek. He attended school in Prescott. From 1962-1964, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany and France. Edward married Judy Von Kuster on June 20, 1964, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, River Falls. He went to vocational school in St. Paul and worked as a journeyman tool and die maker for the H.D. Hudson Mfg. Co.
Duane L. Wieland, age 68, of Durand, formerly of Urne, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 20, 2010, while working at Lutheran Home Campus in River Falls. Duane was born at home in Urne on Feb. 27, 1942. He was the son of LaVerne Sr. and Clara (Thompson) Wieland. Duane attended Urne grade school and Durand High School. After school, Duane joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 and served on the USS Saratoga until 1966. Duane married Maxine Forster on Sept. 17, 1966, and they later divorced. He married Twylah Carpenter on June 18, 1983, in Stockholm.
Guy Robert Wennblom, 47, Diamond Bluff, died Thursday, August 19, at Saint Marys Hospital, Rochester. He was born Jan. 4, 1963, in Graceville, Minn., the son of Robert and Lori Wennblom. He was a 1981 graduate of River Falls High School and he attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Dunwoody Institute. He married Jane Thygesen on Oct. 24, 1992 in Red Wing. He was employed by Data Card in Minneapolis, RAM Center in Red Wing and for the past ten years at Bi-Phase, a division of Schwan's. He was a member of St.
Thomas G. Kuehl, 76, of Solon Springs, Wis., passed away June 29, 2010. Tom taught German and English for 22 years at River Falls High School. In 1984, he moved to California, returning to Solon Springs in 2001. Survived by his children, Sheri and Richard of St. Paul; brother, Walter Kuehl of Oceanside, Calif.
Bea Moira Kunde passed peacefully in her mommy's arms and surrounded by her daddy's love on July 29, 2010. Bea was born at 7:58 a.m. on June 18, 2010, weighing 4 pounds, 14 ounces, to a waiting crowd of admirers.

Ramona Johnson Pagel, of Neenah, age 70, died peacefully surrounded by her family and friends at Cherry Meadows Hospice following a short battle with cancer. Mona was born on May 10, 1940, in Minneapolis, daughter of the late Leonard M. and Bernice L. (Anderson) Johnson. Mona graduated from River Falls High School in 1958. She then graduated from Stout State College in 1962 with a degree in home economics and was a sister in the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. Mona taught home economics in Berlin, Wis., for two years and then on June 27, 1964, she married Ken J. Pagel in River Falls.
