Roland passed away in the early morning hours on Monday, May 23, 2011, at his home in Amery, Wis. He was born on Nov. 25, 1945, in Elk River, Minn., to Emil H. and Mary A. Nelson. He graduated from River Falls High School in River Falls, Wis., and from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire campus, Eau Claire, Wis. Roland and Barb (Beer) were married on May 29, 1970, in Eau Claire.

Gweneth "Gwen" Carol Kusilek, age 67, died Monday, May 23, 2011, at her home, after a long battle with cancer. Gwen was born on Sept. 2, 1943, in rural River Falls, the daughter of Charles and Myrtle (Dopkins) Ray. She was a 1961 graduate of River Falls High School. Gwen married Eugene R. Kusilek on May 11, 1963, at Ezekiel Lutheran Church; Eugene died on June 30, 1998. To this union three sons were born: Randy, Michael, and Troy. Gwen worked for many years in student housing at the UW-River Falls. She enjoyed spending time at the cabin on Buck Lake, fishing, and cooking.
Richard E. "Dick" Rohl Sr., 66, of Ellsworth, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2011, at his home after a short battle with cancer. He was born on March 30, 1945, to Edwin and Mabel (Cernohous) Rohl in River Falls. He was raised on the family farm and attended St. Bridget's Catholic school in River Falls until 8th grade. He graduated from Prescott High School in 1963. Dick proudly served his country in Vietnam from 1966-1967, U.S. Army. He received a Purple Heart. After returning from Vietnam he continued to farm and he met Penny Dunn. They were married on Sept. 26, 1970.
Retired theatre professor Alfreds Straumanis of River Falls Township died of pneumonia early Friday morning, May 20, 2011, at St. Paul's United Hospital. He was 89. Straumanis was born July 22, 1921, in Moscow, Russia, to Janis and Vera Straumanis, who were war refugees from Latvia. The family returned to independent Latvia, where Straumanis completed high school and started his career in the theatre. During the Second World War, Straumanis served in the Latvian military.
Kathleen "Kathy" Ann (nee Winrich) Wright, age 61, of River Falls, Wis., died suddenly Friday, May 20, 2011, at the River Falls Area Hospital. Kathy was born on May 26, 1949, in Eau Claire, the daughter of Elmer and Winifred Winrich. She married Larry Wright on June 21, 1969, in Eau Claire.
Doyne Anderson, age 84, of River Falls, Wis., died May 14, 2011, at his home. Doyne was born in Virginia, Minn., on Aug. 26, 1926, to William and Gyda (Eggen) Anderson. Doyne joined the merchant marines at 17, and then the Army in 1950 as a Signal Corps radio operator. Doyne went on to graduate from the University of River Falls in 1958. He then married his wife of 60 years, Ruth Nelson, on Jan. 1, 1951. Doyne was an active member in the Methodist church and choir all of his life.
Arlo T. Walker, age 92, of Ellsworth, died Friday, May 13, 2011, at the Ellsworth Care Center, surrounded by his family. Arlo was born in Beldenville, Wis., on Nov. 15, 1918, to William and Goldie (Cook) Walker. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1941-1946, participating in the Battle of the Bulge. Arlo retired from Nor-Lake Manufacturing in 1982 after 30 years of service. He married Carole R. (Farr) Polk on Sept.
James Perry Forsyth, age 83, originally of River Falls and a 1945 New Richmond High School graduate, lost a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease on May 6, 2011. There will be a visitation for Mr. Forsyth from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, in the Page-Theus Funeral Home. Memorials in Jim's honor may be made to the Leesburg Partnership. Rowland Dean Klink, age 90, of River Falls, died on Monday, May 9, 2011, at Grace Health Care in River Falls. Rowland was born on June 16, 1920, on a farm near Iola, Kan., to Fred and Ida Mae (Sams) Klink. At the age of 16, after his father's death, Rowland became the head of the household. He worked at Ramsey's Department Store in Iola. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and piloted A26 and B26 attack bombers in Europe during WWII with the 386 Bomb Group. The group was honored in Belgium and France on the 50th Anniversary of D-day. Rowland and Helen traveled to Europe for the event.
