Monica Eldora Streed, age 87, of Jordan, Minn., passed away at Boutwell's Landing in Stillwater on Monday, June 20, 2011. She was born the only daughter of Elisée and Laura (Dugrenier) Venne on Aug. 15, 1923, in Manchester, N.H. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served as a yeoman during 1 year of WWII. On June 21, 1946, Monica was united in marriage to Donovan P. Streed in Minneapolis, Minn. They were blessed with four children, and she was a dedicated, loving, and devoted mother.
Gerald Benson, age 87, of Roberts, died suddenly Monday, June 20, 2011, at his residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hammond. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin, and 1 hour prior to the Mass at church on Friday morning. Memorials preferred.
Gerald B. "Jerry" Slind, 82, of Colfax, Wis., father of three including Pamela (Doug) Rudesill of River Falls, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Colfax Health and Rehabilitation Center. Visitation was held on Sunday, June 19, at Sampson Funeral Home. The funeral was held on Monday, June 20, at Colfax Lutheran Church.
Elizabeth "Beth" Susie Linehan (formerly Wilcoxson), age 97, of Hammond, formerly of Hudson, died on the evening of June 17, 2011, at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond, Wis. Elizabeth was born on Dec. 11, 1913, to Carl and Laura (Kirkpatrick) Lewis in Eagle Grove, Iowa. The oldest of four children, she grew up in Eagle Grove on the family farm. Around the fall of 1936, Elizabeth met a young man named Milo Wilcoxson, who worked as a field hand. In September of 1937 the two were married in Bethany, Mo. The marriage would be blessed with five children.
Kelly Ann "Tugs" Fayerweather, nee Brookman, June 17, 1961 - June 17, 2011, of Hudson, Wis., recently relocated from Riverton, Utah, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Tugs loved people, horses, all pets, and just about any living creature. She was patient and kind but strong and passionate when she saw an injustice that needed correction. She passed away after a courageous 3-year battle with cancer, but not until reaching her goal of turning 50.
James Edward Steffenhagen, age 63, of Hudson, died on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. A funeral service for James will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 545 Apollo Rd., River Falls. Visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. Friday, also at the church. Burial with military honors will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 21. Sidona R. Lueck, age 98, of Roberts, died Sunday, June 12, 2011, at the Lutheran Home in River Falls. She was born the daughter of Frank and Ida (Wichart) Weise on Nov. 28, 1912, in Madison, S.D. Sidona married Arthur Lueck in Minneapolis, Minn., and the couple farmed in Minnesota before moving to Wisconsin in 1969. She was a member of Cross Lutheran Church in Roberts, involved with quilting and volunteering at church. Sidona also enjoyed gardening and visiting people.
Vaughn W. Halling, 74, of Cumberland, Wis., died June 6, 2011, after being diagnosed with lymphoblastic lymphoma. He was born Jan. 5, 1937, in Lund, Wis., to Wallace and Evelyn (Lundberg) Halling. He graduated from Pepin High School, immediately joined the Wabasha Minnesota Army Reserves, was called up to active duty during the Berlin Crisis and was stationed in Ft. Polk, La., for 1 year. After his service, Vaughn attended the University of Wisconsin - River Falls and graduated from Cardinal Stritch College. He was married in Lund on Sept. 5, 1959, to Phyllis Wicklund.
Neal Dennis Smith, age 69, of North Hudson, passed away at his home on Thursday afternoon, June 2, 2011. He was born the son of Charles "Tami" and Bertha Smith on March 2, 1942, in River Falls, Wis. Neal graduated from River Falls High School in 1960. In 1961, he served in the National Guard at the time of the Berlin Crisis in Washington State. On Aug. 7, 1965, he was united in marriage to Rita Marie Sabol in Hudson.
Barbara C. Anderson, age 58, of River Falls, Wis., and formerly of Lauderdale, Minn., died on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., from complications of a stroke. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, at the First Congregational Church in River Falls. Memorial visitation will also be from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of River Falls.
