PRESCOTT--Genny Taevs, Prescott Farmers Market Manager in 2012, announces the market is seeking a new manager for the 2013 season. Taevs is retiring as manager of the market for personal reasons. This is a volunteer position requiring about five hours' work per week. Last summer the market, held Thursdays from 3-7 p.m. in front of Tractor Supply at Hwys.
MAIDEN ROCK-Dog Days of Stockholm announces artist Maria Dudley Kowalski's original painting "Puppy Party on the Pier" (an 11''x 14'' acrylic on canvas), featured as part of the 2013 Dog Days of Stockholm event poster, will be available for bidding during the Dog Days Silent Auction event. This event, held at the WideSpot Performing Arts Center in Stockholm at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 13, will feature Kowalski's work, along with other Kowalski, her husband Jason and their beloved dog "Bergen" (a long-haired Chihuahua) relocated from Laguna Beach to Maiden Rock.
The public is invited to an Easter Vigil Celebration of Light service this Saturday at 7 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, N6450 530th St., at the corner of CTH N and 530th Street in the Town of Ellsworth. Come hear God's story of salvation history with great music and singing. A sandwich supper will be available before the service from 5:30-6:30 p.m., with donation proceeds going to the Nick Jahnke family for medical expenses. The service will be followed by outdoor luminaries and fireworks to proclaim the light and joy of the Resurrection.
The Pierce County Ecumenical Choir will hold several concerts throughout April under the missive of "No Stone Could Hold Him." Written by celebrated composer Lloyd Larson, this powerful work is filled with scripture-based images of Jesus as "A Rock in a Weary Land," even when tempted by Satan to "turn these stones to food," and as the Solid Rock on which we stand through "Winds of Change" and "Shifting Sand." It is a spirited witness to the ministry, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus.
HUDSON - Officers from the Hudson Police Department were dispatched to a report of a man down at the Hudson Golf Course maintenance buildings Friday March 22, at approximately 12:14 pm. The buildings are located at 2001 Ward Ave., just east of Plaza 94. A UPS driver reported finding a male at this location inside one of two buildings, lying in blood on the floor. When officers and EMS arrived they found a 35-year-old male on the floor in a semi-conscious state. The victim is an employee of the Hudson Golf Course. The victim was suffering from a head injury.
SPRING VALLEY--A training session is scheduled for people wishing to be new volunteers at Refuge Farms Horse Rescue and Sanctuary in Spring Valley this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Both the indoor and outdoor portions on this day will be offered at Refuge Farms, 3035 Hwy. 29, just east of Hwy. 128, east of Spring Valley. Those interested in attending the session are encouraged to dress in layers for both the indoor and outdoor portions of the program. Volunteers are needed for care of the horses and grounds, fundraising and assisting with the equine-assisted therapy program, Horses Helping.
RIVER FALLS--As part of the Holy Week reflections prior to Easter, First Covenant Church of River Falls will host two Seder Experiences at 5:15 and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 28. Two representatives of a Messianic Jewish congregation, Pastor Daniel Lancaster and musician Troy Mitchell, will lead the traditional Jewish Passover service. With the roots of Christianity being in the Jewish tradition, they will share the significance of this most sacred of Jewish celebrations to Christians. The church is located at 1374 N.
UW-River Falls will host Composer Fang Man for a three-day residency on March 19-21. The residency will conclude with a concert on Thursday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, March 9, at 3:24 p.m., the Pierce County Sheriff's Department was notified of a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 63 near 220th Avenue in the town of Trenton. After the initial investigation, it was determined a southbound vehicle driven by Kalea Stewart, 22, of rural Ellsworth was slowing or stopped waiting for northbound traffic to clear so she could make a left-hand turn into a private driveway. Another southbound vehicle driven by Zebidiah Tri, 23, River Falls, did not see the Stewart vehicle and rear-ended it. Tri and his six-year-old daughter were uninjured.
