Joan Lee Blegen, age 77, of Spring Valley, died Monday, Sept. 10, at the River Falls Area Hospital. Joan was born April 8, 1935, the daughter of Arthur and Lascene (North) Firlus, in Mauston, Wis. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Church in Mauston. Joan grew up there and graduated from Mauston High School in 1953. On June 24, 1954, Joan married Elroy "Buster" Blegen at Decorah, Iowa. They lived in Mauston until 1960 when they moved to Martell, Wis. Joan was a longtime member of Rush River Lutheran Church, rural River Falls.
Leo Krear, age 78, of Prescott, died Thursday, Aug. 30, at the River Falls Area Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial for Leo will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Prescott, Wis. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Cashman-Hill Funeral Home, River Falls, and for 1 hour prior to the Mass at the church on Tuesday.
Jeanine M. Huppert, age 74, of Ellsworth, Wis., passed away on Aug. 12, surrounded by her family, at the River Falls Medical Center. She was born on Jan. 31, 1938, in Red Wing, Minn., to Richard E. and Elizabeth (Huppert) Johnson. She was united in marriage to Chester R. Huppert on Aug. 27, 1957, at Big River Catholic Church in River Falls, Wis. This marriage was blessed with four children: Jerome, David, Kimberly, and Barbara. Jeanine found great importance in her faith. She was a devoted member of St. Francis Catholic Church and enjoyed her Bible study group.
Duane L. Hanson, age 75, of Ellsworth, died Tuesday, July 31, at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, Minn. He was born on June 8, 1937, in the town of Trimbelle, Pierce County, to Roy and Doris (Bredahl) Hanson. Duane grew up on a farm on County Rd. O, in the town of Trimbelle and was a 1955 graduate of Ellsworth High School. He worked a number of years as a welder and later went to work for the 3M Corporation, retiring from the Chemolite Plant, after 33 years of service. Duane married Mary Jeannine Madsen on Sept. 11, 1958, in Hammond, Wis.
Loretta M. Most, 83, of Prescott, died Tuesday, July 17, at the Prescott Nursing and Rehab. Community. Loretta was born on July 30, 1928, in River Falls, Wis., to Selmer and Ethel (Dumond) Peterson. She was a 1947 graduate of River Falls High School. On Aug. 31, 1948, she married George L. Most and moved to the Most family farm. After raising her family she worked at the Gift Tree in Hastings for 10 years. Loretta liked being with family, especially grandchildren; friends; and golfing.
Dorothy (Dettling) Sticht, age 92, of Maiden Rock, passed away on May 31, surrounded by family, at her home in Maiden Rock. Dorothy was born on June 24, 1919, to Joseph and Kate (Horn) Dettling in Plum City, Wis. She attended the rural Gilles School and graduated from the Plum City High School. She worked as a nurse at the Plum City Hospital. She married Arthur Sticht on Feb. 19, 1944. After Dorothy and Arthur's marriage she started farming and continued being active on the farm until just before her death. She was a lifelong member of St. Johns Parish in Plum City.
Scott Harold Lubich, age 51, of Prescott, died Friday, April 13, unexpectedly at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Prescott. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Visitation for Scott will be from 4-8p.m. Monday at the Hill Funeral Home, Prescott, and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Clifton Martell, age 64, of Woodville, Wis., died Saturday, April 14, at his home in Woodville. Visitation for Clifton will be from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, with an evening prayer service to be held from 6-6:15 p.m. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Woodside Cemetery, rural Baldwin.
Irene Henrietta Peterson, age 93, of River Falls, formerly of Ellsworth, died Friday, March 29, at the Kinnic Health and Rehabilitation Center, River Falls. Irene was born on Sept. 3, 1918, in the town of Martell, the daughter of Andrew and Mary (Johnson) Norderhaug. She married Randolph Peterson on Dec. 29, 1938. They farmed for several years until Randolph went to work for Ellsworth Farmers Union. Irene spent a lot of time with her grandchildren and was a great cook who loved to welcome all into her home and feed them.
Ethel V. Anderson, age 92, of Ellsworth, died Monday, Feb. 27, at the River Falls Area Hospital. Ethel was born on April 24, 1919, in Pierce County, the daughter of Arvid and Anna (Jacobson) Dahlberg. She attended the Number 16 Public School north of Lund, Wis., through the eighth grade. Ethel spent several years working for housewives in the area. She married Harry Anderson on June 12, 1940, in Lund. She was involved with the dairy farming at his family's farm in the Pine Creek area, working outdoors a great deal of the time. Ethel enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, baking and reading.
